What’s Up Cynthia

So there was more posted in the St. Louis post dispatch about this. It’s behind a paywall so here’s the article:

ST. LOUIS COUNTY — A member of the Rockwood School Board has been accused of stealing from two Target stores.

Chesterfield Police Department records show police arrested Izzy Imig around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, for allegedly failing to scan a vacuum cleaner at self-checkout at the Target at 40 THF Boulevard in Chesterfield.

Three days later, on Friday, Ballwin police issued Imig a court summons at the Target at 15025 Manchester Road for stealing, police records show.

Imig allegedly placed about $700 worth of items in shopping bags without scanning them at a self-checkout lane, including a Bissell vacuum valued at $113, according to an investigative report from Chesterfield Police. The Post-Dispatch received the report through a records request.

A Target employee noticed, and escorted Imig to the Target’s service desk where Imig paid for the items, except the vacuum, which police said Imig put at the bottom of her shopping cart. Police said a Target employee placed a handheld scanning device in the cell phone spot on Imig’s shopping cart. Imig took the scanner with her to her Cadillac Escalade along with the unpaid vacuum, police allege.

In the police’s report, a Target security employee alleged Imig placed her phone on top of the scanner “concealing it from view.”

Police said they later called Imig, who said she came to the store with the vacuum to return it. An officer explained that he saw her take the vacuum from a store shelf in surveillance footage, according to the report.

Imig eventually met with police at Chesterfield City Hall at an unspecified date. During an interview, the report noted, Imig said she did not leave Target with unpurchased merchandise and she was confronted by employees before leaving. She said she returned the scanning device to the Target in Ballwin at a later time.

Police booked Imig and later released her from custody with a court date of June 10.

A Target security employee told Chesterfield police that Imig also allegedly stole about $300 worth of items from the Ballwin Target on Feb. 23. Imig returned to the Ballwin Target on Friday with a shopping bag containing merchandise and requested to “re-purchase” the items, according to Chesterfield Police’s report.

Ballwin police then issued Imig a summons for stealing.

Ballwin police Public Information Officer Shannon Schaper said Imig was issued a summons “in lieu of arrest” for the alleged stealing.

The summons did not appear in online court records as of Tuesday afternoon, nor did court records related to the alleged theft in Chesterfield.

Imig declined to comment when reached by phone Monday morning. She did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment Tuesday.

Imig was elected to the Rockwood Board of Education in 2022 amid a wave of conservative-minded candidates running for school board races in the region.

She’s running for reelection in April, along with two other candidates seeking to fill two open seats.

In a statement Monday, Board of Education President Lynne Midyett said the board was aware that “a board member” was issued a summons for shoplifting.

“We understand that this news may be concerning to our community,” Midyett said. “The board is monitoring the situation and we are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and ensuring the continued focus on the education and well-being of our students and staff.”
