Californians can ring in 2024 by redeeming their empty wine and liquor containers for cash! 💲♻️

Starting January 1, California adds wine and liquor sold in bottles, cans, boxes, and pouches to the state’s Beverage Container Recycling Program to cut waste and pollution by turning more recycled materials into new products.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, New Yorkers celebrated the holiday aboard a Brooklyn-bound L train, where volunteers transformed two subway cars into a festive dining space with a full Thanksgiving buffet, complete with turkey, traditional side dishes, and decorations.
The pop-up feast in it's 3rd year, lasted several hours as the train traveled along the L line, invited passengers to eat together, share the meal, and carry leftovers home, creating a heartwarming communal experience. 🦃🍗🚉🗽

But evolutions within the U.S. policy landscape amid the Trump administration’s emphasis on domestic manufacturing and the launch of state extended producer responsibility programs have helped build momentum in a productive year for these bills, they say.

The California Air Resources Board voted unanimously on Thursday to update the state’s Landfill Methane Rule for the first time in 15 years. The updates, which are set to go into effect in 2027, will return California to its role as a leader on landfill gas regulations, as other states have followed the lead set by its initial rule adopted in 2010.
