How To Escape: DIY, Tips, and Reviews

Welcome to "HOW-TO" ESCAPE!

An ever-growing library of DIY's, "How-To's", and Reviews for you to make the most out of your '13-'15 Ford Escape!

I'm a mechanical engineer, and am a member of the FordEscape.org community forum, and go by the sn, "Rahrena". I purchased my '13 Ford Escape SE with 50,000 mi already on the 1.6T engine, so my warranty was already up.

This prompted me to have less to lose than others with experimenting with my FE, and I have found a great deal of success, converting my MyFord Touch to have NAV, installing aftermarket backup cameras, and more. There's also a strong emphasis on basic vehicle maintenance!

The goal is to create a video library where we can come watch tutorials on how we can make the most of our vehicles. SUBSCRIBE!

How To Escape: DIY, Tips, and Reviews

Hi everyone, after 11 years and of driving our 13 1.6L, we're considering updating to the next body style and doing more videos with an 18 or 19. Considering simplicity with potential for upgrades and video content by going with a 2.5L/S trim, but also have found success in making content on the ecoboost engines with the higher trim levels and video appeal. In any case, we would do all the maintenance videos for this gen that we did for the last, but would maybe have more bells and whistles maintenance videos with higher trim levels vs upgrade potential and aftermarket solutions and reviews with the S. This would provide be within the next 6 months.

What do you guys think? Thank you for being part of this community and interested to know your thoughts!

Review posted on our portable Apple Carplay / Android Auto screen by Carpuride. We didn't want to test out just an auxiliary screen, but it needed to have added function and utility vs just sticking your phone in a holder near your windshield instead. This unit has a forward/inner dash cam, a rear dash cam/backup camera, screen mirroring, online video streaming, a 64GB micro SD card that loops the storage for cam recording, as well as a versatile range of sound outputs depending on the level of technology of your car's stereo system. It's way cooler than we thought it would be, and so far packs a lot of punch for the price tag. Check out the review and let us know what you think vs other types of similar screens you may have tried yourself! #carplay #androidauto #dashcam #fordescape #fordsync #2013fordescape #aftermarket #carpuride #w903

Throttle Body Cleaning: We've had a few people ask about this in the past month so we're going to do a tutorial / HOW TO for it. Does anyone have any questions related to the cleaning of the actual throttle body or sensor that they'd like to see in the video? #fordescape #throttlebody #cleaning

*Review video posted on the Foxwell NT624 Elite OBD2 scanner!* Give a shout if you have any questions on it. Smart enough for you to get into the nitty gritty. Safe enough that it's not a rewrite-type tool like when using FORSCAN. Maintenance resets, DTC's, Fault detection (that you wouldn't otherwise know about!), and of course, LIVE DATA monitoring and ability to export! #fordescape #foxwell #obd2 #scanner #livedata #DIY #howto #diagnostics #ford

Foxwell NT624 scanner review posting early this week! Excited to share a bit early about it but more details to come in the video. This thing has been mind blowing. Scans and erases codes, has maintenance time savers, but also can read into each control module in your specific vehicle with auto vin check. You can then tap into the live data feeds for each parameter of each module, record the data during a driving event, and then aside from being able to see values in real time on the scanner screen, you can save the duration of the event, export many different data streams, and then map them in Microsoft Excel to evaluate the real performance data of your vehicle. This is incredibly powerful and in this example here, I have the rpm of the engine shaft input to the transmission output as well as the gear shift commanded by the powertrain control module (PCM). More to come this week! Stay tuned.

Made a post on our website/blog about Ford's MyKey system and did our best to encompass setup, erasing, and options for making a spare key/ Admin Key to get back into your settings menu to clear restrictions. Been posting a bit lately so check it out if you are curious about MyKey or have any difficulties. www.howtoescape-rahrena.com/post/how-to-set-up-and… #mykey #ford #2013fordescape #adminkey

Is there any interest in a video on upgrading a 2013-2015 Sync 2 system to have one of the Sync 3 factory setups with Android auto or Apple Carplay? Thinking of demo-ing one of the ship with OBDII kits and documenting the process. Also considering keeping it simple and looking at some of the smaller add-on dash top units with the dash cam built in with AA/carplay. Thoughts? Anyone have a kit thats worked well for them? Thanks!

*** TAKING QUESTIONS FOR TRANSMISSION SHOP OWNER on our '13+ Ford Escape transmissions, the 6F35 6 speed transmission in specific*** I will be heading to a local shop who just replaced our '13 SE 1.6L transmission and will be asking the owner general and specific questions for a video and would love to include your questions if possible!

As a shop that services a variety of makes and models, I look forward to asking failure analysis details on our Ford Escapes compared to other brands of cars, as well as specific failure points and what is repairable vs replaced and other details as well.

Does anybody use a Fumoto oil pan drain valve? If so, what's your engine size and what are your thoughts? Did you need an extension/spacer part to install it to your oil pan? Rating on 1-10? Thinking about getting one and doing a video on install and functionality- thanks!
