Go hawks! Currently I’m working on putting together a bit more of a long for video using a lot of the extra flooding footage I captured. I could just upload it all as one big b-roll clip, but I think I want to put some more work into it instead. This channel will primarily be used for livestreaming storms in Washington state and occasionally elsewhere. When there’s is really interesting weather on the horizon, I will do forecast style videos. When we get into quiet times, similar to now, I will work on doing recaps of storms I’ve chased. Let me know if any of you have any feedback or suggestions. Thanks everyone!
Well, I hate to be the bearer of less than pleasant news. Unfortunately after this weeks fresh mountain dumping of snow, the snow levels are about to rise this weekend and into next week. It is looking more likely that we may have another.. **trigger warning..** atmospheric river/Pinapple Express in our future. I know, everyone is tired of those words, especially after December. But unfortunately this is something we should discuss.
Saturday night through Tuesday night is the timeframe when this is possibly going to occur, with Monday looking the rainiest. The snow level at Stevens Pass is likely going to climb to over 6,500 feet, and rain will be falling at pass level. Attached is a map showing 72 hour rain totals from Saturday at 10am through Tuesday at 10am from the European model. This is not a great look for our snowpack. River flooding? Maybe, but it’s still a bit far out to be sure. A lot of snow has fallen in the lower elevations of the foothills. My concern, is that a decent amount of snowmelt will occur in tandem with this rainfall. The National Blend of Models shows less rain totals, which still wouldn’t be great for the snowpack but would pose less flooding concerns. Hopefully it ends up being just another couple rainy days with no issues.
And then after that, we going to get more mountain snow again, right?! 😀 Right?! 🫠… well 😐… not for a while. Temperatures in the mountains are likely to stay elevated for some time… it might even get downright balmy up there for a bit.
So, if you ski or snowboard, I’d recommend enjoying the fresh powder sometime Today-Saturday if you can make it up there. I’ll monitor the upcoming pattern, and hopefully we won’t have to talk about flooding concerns. But, if we do, we will try our best to communicate about it and cover it of course. Shown in the first graphic is the European model rain totals for the time period discussed. *Written on 01-09-26* #Weather#wawx - Benjamin J

❄️ 🎉 A Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for Cascades Mountains and the northwestern slopes of the Blue Mountains of Washington state. This watch is for a long period of time from Monday night through Thursday afternoon. This upcoming period is the most favorable period of mountain snowpack building that we’ve seen so far this winter! Several FEET of snow is likely to fall in the mountains this week, including at pass levels!
Skiers rejoice!! Be watching for a scheduled snow chase livestream for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Attached here is a link to the full winter storm watch text from numerous National Weather Service offices.
Hey folks, I was considering doing a livestream looking over data tonight but I am going to opt for spending time with the family. There is plenty of weather coming up you can expect and associated storm chase livestreams.
6:21PM: Hey everyone, I’ve got a lot of updating to do. This week has been busy spending time with family and studying, but active weather is making a return this weekend. Long story short, (TLDR) another storm is approaching the area this weekend and it is going to coincide with our last round of King Tides. I plan on doing a more thorough forecast in the morning along with perhaps a live weather update tomorrow evening if people are interested?
There will likely be some wind with this system, but as as you can see below, there is uncertainty in exactly where the low will go and how deep it will be. Each red L on that map represents a different ensemble member of the European ensemble suite for the lows position on Saturday night at 10pm. Some are deeper, some are way off shore. Some are much closer to shore. Models have been handling this system with higher confidence than the last round, but exact details are still coming together. The European is much more confident that there will be a substantial surface low this go around Saturday night-Sunday morning. As of now, the biggest impacts will likely be felt on the coast. However, there is a chance that the low will affect inland locations as well, with some wind and coastal flooding.
Leading up to this, two coastal flood watches have been issued by the NWS in Seattle for its coastal areas of jurisdiction. One for Friday, and another for Saturday. They mention, “Inundation of 2.50 to 3 feet above ground level is possible along shorelines and low-lying coastal areas.” The full watch will be linked here: forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=SEW&…. Coastal flooding will likely be worse on Saturday as the surface low gets closer to the area.
I’m sure they will issue other headlines regarding coastal flooding for Sunday both along the coast, and maybe some coastal flood advisories for Puget Sound locations too, but we will see. Depending on how things trend, there may be some wind headlines as well, more likely for the coast right now.
Again, expect a more thorough forecast from me tomorrow once we’ve got some new data to work with, and a video. Anyone interested in a livestream tomorrow night? And of course, expect some live storm chasing coverage over the next couple of days as well. #wawx#weather#washington#pnw 01-01-26 -Benjamin J
