DEEP-SET HOODED EYE MAKEUP ANALYSIS

Quick clarification: the client situation I showed was made up for reference. My actual client was very happy and never asked me for a blue smoky eye.

I exaggerated the scenario to show a very real problem I see all the time: clients bring an inspiration photo that looks beautiful, but the person in the photo has a completely different eye shape, eye color, complexion, hair, or contrast level.

And sometimes that exact makeup actually contradicts the client’s own features and color scheme.

That’s where my job as a makeup artist goes beyond simply copying a reference.

I have to analyze you and explain what needs to change: maybe the color story, the intensity, the opacity, the placement, or the shape. We can keep the same overall feeling without literally copying the makeup.

A lot of women were taught makeup as a one-size-fits-all set of rules.

My mom, for example, was taught to use bright white or silver, put black in the outer corner, and never take the darker shade above the crease. And such color story and mapping is absolutely wrong for her complexion 🤷‍♀️
And I see women come to me with those same rules decades later.

They were simply taught techniques without being taught why they work, or who they work for.

You might love how something looks on someone else and assume it will look the same on you. But makeup is affected by your complexion, contrast, coloring, eye shape, and proportions.

Once you understand those things, it becomes much easier.

The difficult part is knowing what to look for in the first place. Some people have that natural visual intuition, but it can also be learned.

And that’s what I want to help you understand: not how to copy someone else’s makeup, but how to figure out what actually belongs on your face.

You’re really just learning how to work with the right colors, the right brushes, placement, depth and intensity and then adjusting those things depending on whether you want natural makeup, soft glam, or full glam.

HOW THIS LOOK BLEW UP (I DIDN’T EXPECT THIS)
It was New Year’s Eve. I was rushing to get ready, lighting was bad, I was already sipping champagne, and I almost didn’t post it because it wasn’t my usual setup. But I still felt like it can be helpful for SisterHOOD and let it ride. It end up going viral across every platform. 🤷‍♀️🤪

Here’s the Cheat- sheet:

Grey: mix a matte white and a matte black eyeshadow together until you get a grey that you prefer (lighter or darker).

Sparkle: silver waterfall

TOOLS
Apex Trio with Angled eyeliner brush & flat Definer

STEPS
1. Map it first. Determine the highest point of the crease, continue the ascending direction of your lower lash line and connect them
2. Lay the grey above your crease with Apex trio
3. Extend it up and out along the diagonal into a soft smoky wing, not a sharp point. DO NOT TOUCH THE MOBILE EYELID.
4. Buff the edges with the same brush so it fades instead of looking stamped on.
5. Deepen the outer corner for dimension.
6. Tap silver sparkle on your mobile eyelids , above the crease and inner corners
7. Mascara and manga lashes to finish.

EYE BEAUTY GURU IS FINALLY
Upgraded, elevated, and even better before.

Real talk: the classic tapered blender brush, the one that’s in literally every brush set you’ll ever buy, doesn’t actually do much (for our eyes).
It’s generic, it’s shapeless, and it’s the least precise brush in most kits. Even though it’s most used, but most useful for non-hooded eyes. So I cut it. And designed Apex Maxi instead - it gives you way more control with zero uncontrolled bloom.

Each brush in this bundle works out to ~ $8.35.

If you’ve shopped premium brushes before, ones with real bristle quality and an actual functional shape, you know those usually go for $20 a brush on their own.

Honestly, I got tired of paying $20 for a single brush from a luxury brand and still not getting the quality I needed.

🤯 Looks like the same brushes you already own, but it’s it’s not.

👀 Mine are built millimeter by millimeter — the edge, the bristles, the size — all intentional, none of it a ready white labeled brush. There’s no analogy.

➡️ My Apex looks like a tiny beauty blender on a stick and eventually, as I was still learning and exploring- I have them in 3 perfect sizes ✅

➡️ My Flat Blender hits the one corner spot most brushes can’t, without dragging your eye into a “dirty cloud.”

➡️ My Flat Definer and Angled Eyeliner are the same story — close, but the edge and size are always just a little off on anything else.

❌That’s why you don’t need a drawer full of brushes.

✅Each one of mine is smart enough to do the job of 3-4 regular brushes, so you need fewer, not more.

💯 You might won’t see it in a photo. You’ll feel it the second you try it.
