A channel devoted to that which brought me joy over the years, and the hope that others will find them as delightful as I do. (And I can't even watch the videos I put up, because that would inflate the view count and give me false hope. WHAT KINDA SADISTIC TORTURE IS THIS?)
Realizing I was losing track of my favorite things, I am compelled to do what I can to keep them from being buried by time and the crush of ever-newer content.
Starting with the older content, because......yeah.
Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
This just feels very appropriate right now. The post-con blues, plus the uncertainty of the AMV theater going forward.

Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
So, last day of Otakon. After seeing the last showing of the AMV finalists, I was all set to enjoy a post-AMV high and settle into a bittersweet mood for a Convention ending.
Then Vic Boruta launches into a speech saying goodbye and how he's being pushed out, barring an act of God. What the hell, man! IMHO, VicBond is one of the OGs of AMV creation, a pillar of the creation community. I really hope things change, but if not, I hope all the best for him in his future endeavors and that he can find something equally dear to him.
You better believe I'm keeping my 2025 AMV Ballot as a souvenir.

Can't believe in a little under 2 weeks, it will be Otakon again! "The days are slow, but the years are fast" indeed. I hope I'll be able to go. It's funny how life seems to toss a bunch of stuff your way all around the same time.
Just to spotlight last year's Best In Show:

3 more days before resuming the usual upload schedule, but no reason I can't make an little interim post!
I get childishly excited about hearing songs I know when out in public, especially when I have no reason to expect it. Like when hearing Himuro Kyosuke's "Calling" at the grocery store, or Utada Hikaru's "First Love" at a Japanese restaurant. Today, I heard Walk the Moon's "One Foot" at Coastal Flats, which immediately called to mind this gem I saw at Otakon last year. Even though it was a Runner-Up, it was my favorite AMV among the finalists. (Though they were all wonderful. Very close call.)
If you can, please show the creator, ThatOneGuy, some love!

Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
I wanted to do something special for reaching 100 subscribers, but life got in the way. Also, some self-created problems. So here I am, 3 months and 27 subscribers later. I bow in shame. Anywho, what I did was upload the first Dance Dance Revolution Project AMV, which is one of the greatest things in AMV history IMHO.
Of the many videos in my collection, THIS is one of my primary drivers for creating this channel. The thought of this giant collaborative work disappearing made me weep. (The other one, AMV Hell, is still active so no worries about them) Or the creators not getting credit. (Some shade is being thrown, yes.)
I know uploading a particularly long AMV may not seem particularly special or celebratory, but it kinda marks the culmination for me of getting familiar with Youtube's restrictions, as well as finally linking this account to information more personal than an email address (curse that 15 minute limitation), because APPARENTLY 2-step verification with a Google Voice number is a "Bad Idea." It also forced me to finally not settle for the Youtube-chosen thumbnail. (Jay and Silent Bob? Are you kidding me, robot overlords?) I'm feeling so inspired I may even go back and change some thumbnails, lol.
Next upload is in 10 days, because I really want to give it extra time as the most-recent video. (I swear it's not just me wanting to slack off.)

Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
I uploaded a video yesterday, but then realized I was a day early, so I made it Unlisted. But when I made it Public today, there were already 2 views. What kind of Harry Potter nonsense is this? lol.

Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
Finally got around to watching Solo Leveling (my backlog is an eldritch horror and I'm working backwards), and was feeling nostalgic again. Decided to just type into the void because I'm never going to have an opportunity to write about it as the notes of one of my uploads. (Anyone who makes an SL AMV likely has their own channel.)
Koreans have been pushing themselves to catch up and surpass the world in various fields. Games, music, idols, manga, anime, novels, electronics, etc.... I noticed their foray into the world of webcomics with "Noblesse," "The Gamer," and "The Returner's Magic is Special." But the art still had a....webcomic feel to them. Nothing bad, but just little things that solo artists had to cut corners on to make those weekly deadlines.
Then Solo Leveling happened. It didn't have the most intelligent/wonderful story ever, or have the most well-developed charaters. It's just meant to be a fun shonen ride ala John Wick. But the art.... it's like they went: "American comics have color and (sometimes) detail, Japanese manga has dynamic framing and weekly releases.....Hold my beer." To me, Solo Leveling sent out a message of "Look what we can crank out every week (probably with near-slave labor). Y'all have no excuse." And the Koreans responded with a never-ending deluge of entertainment. Now, SL is even getting printed on glossy paper so pretty that I'm terrified of reading it for fear of smudging.
With that in mind, I'm kinda surprised Solo Leveling was made by a Japanese studio. I know that for many years, anime studios have outsourced animation to Korea. Koreans make songs so great that they somehow made (some) Asian males sexy to the Western mainstream. And the SL comic is probably story-board ready. So...what was left? Voice acting?

Lethophobe's AMV Nostalgia
Dunno if (m)any people will see this, but I've decided that Monday is going to be VideoGameReunion day, at least for the near future. Given the nature of the material, it would be ridiculous to upload once every 2 months, but potentially irritating for others if AMVs were basically every 10 days. So for the next few months, I'm just going upload more often so that neither's schedule is impacted.

Big thanks to @dudeofdude for helping me get the list of finalists from AnimeUSA! Check out his channel for a truly epic amount of lego/non-lego builds and CCG vids.
