Worship

Inward and outward. (Isaiah 29:13). It begins internally and is expressed outwardly

Spirit and in truth.(John 4:24) Only possible with the holy spirit as a response to the truth of who God is according to his word.

When we worship in spirit and truth we are seeking Gods will and hapiness in him at the same time. It's a false dichotomy to say that we have to choose between serving God and our own hapiness.

Orthodoxy Orthopathy orthopraxy

Romans 12:1-2
There's an active effort to worship while God also enables us to worship him.

The Good Sheperd and our Generous Host
Psalms 23

I. The lord as our sheperd

Nature of The Good Sheperd
John 10:11 The giod sheperd lays down his life for his sheep

10:14 I am the good sheperd I know my own and my own know me.

Nature of the sheep
Very vulerable defenseless and prone to get lost. A danger to themselves.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray we have turned—every one—to his own way.

Why shall we not want?
1. He makes me lie down in green pastures
- Food and rest
2. He leads me beside still waters
- Still waters are safer than running water
3. He restores my Soul
- Like David after he commited adultery God ended up restoring him after he repented.
4. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his own sake
- He doesn't restore us from the wrong path but leads us to become righteous people because he is 100% righteous.
God is consistent in his promises and character and he cannot deny himself.

Proverbs 4:18

5. He is with us even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death. If we fear evil too much we don't trust God enough. People forget man. If you are confident in God's goodnes he'll drive out your fears.

Psalm 27:1

6. Your rod and your staff they comfort me. The rod protects from predators and the staff pulls us away from straying away.

What characteristic of the sheep do you relate to?
Everything because as people whe are never at our 100% always lacking and always in need of a saviour. Everyone needs God

How is the lord Sheperding you?
Through the holy spirit and through people. But one thing I forgot is through prayer. One thing I'll do from now on is pray and talk to God about my problems

II. The Lord as our host

1. You anoint our head with oil (Hebrews 1:9)
Done to sooth weary travellers

2. In the prescence of my enemies
Even of were still under threat there is nothing man or anyone can do unto us to seperate us from God's love

3. My cup overflows
When a host favor someone they pour more drink into their cup.
God's love is more than enough all we have to do is recieve it and we'll overflow with love for everyone.

How is the lord hosting you?

Is your cup overflowing right now

Summary

Rest-for He makes me lie down in green pastures.

Peace for He leads me beside still waters.

Forgiveness-for He restores my soul.

Guidance for He leads me in righteous paths.

Companionship-for He is with me.

Comfort-for His rod and staff comfort me.

Food-for He prepares a table for me.

Protection for He does so in the presence of my enemies.

Acceptance-for He anoints my head with oil.

Abundance for He makes my cup overflow.

Grace for He makes goodness and mercy follow me.

Security for He makes me dwell in His house forever.

With all this why do we need to seek satisfaction elsewhere?

The Evil of Pornography

Pornography violates the inherent dignity of women, men, and ourselves. Even the Gospel. Genesis 1:27
We destroy God's design for sexual intimacy

According to God men and women have royal dignity and as Christians we are royal ambassadors.

We are not fighting to have victory over sin but fighting in the victory of Christ over sin. Romans 6:6-7
Romans 6:9-11

Something to think about: What if we envision everyone we see as royalty and even ourselves knowing the inherent dignity of ourselves others.

How can we know God?

God's gracious revelation (Psalm 19)
God reveals himself through the world and through the word

I. Knowing through the world (vv 1-7)
How about the people who have never heard about Jesus?
The created world proclaims him day and night. One of the greatest things in the sky (the sun) gives life to all and pays tribute to the God who created it.
Intelligent design and faith in God

v1-6 uses the word El to refer to God while verses 7 onward where God is referred by his name as "Yahweh".
El was a generic term for God or other gods used by the Canaanites while Yahweh is the one true God who revealed himself to Israel and to us through his word.

II.Knowing God through his word (vv. 7-14)
1.  His Law is perfect. They give new life or renew our strength.
2. God's testimony (sworn statements) are trustworthy; they can give us wisdom. e.g. the proverbs on laziness are legit
3. God's Precepts (guidlines) teaches us to anchor ourselves to the person of God to give joy regardless of circumstances e.g. Job.
4. Commandment is pure enlighteing the eyes. It will show you the truth in the face of the deception from the world.
5. Fear of the Lord is clean enduring forever. The reverence that the Lord inspires will never go away.
6. The rules of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. They are just and right.
7. God's forgiveness despite our failure to keep his law
v12 shows that God can justify us through faith from sins we don't even know.
v13 shows that God can overcome the power of sin over us especially willful sin

New Christians can probably relate to v12 as they still lack wisdom but both verses should always be in the prayers of all Christians whether we're mature or not. What if we treat our bible like we treat our cellphones?

1 Corinthians 3:6-8
What was the problem of the Church in Corinth?-Problem witb spouses-wrong beliefs-Divisions in the church
Why should we share the Gospel?Jeremiah 10:23Psalm 90:10Acts 17:262 Peter 3:10-11Hebrews 9:27
A. The duty of people1. Sowing- solidarity- unity- timing2. Watering- Hard Work- Determination- Compassion
B. The part of God1. Growing2 Cultivating
Application
Jesus is the Center of preaching
Have unity and participate instead of arguing.
Avoid being a spectator while others are working hard and doing their best.spend time praying for the hardworking workers.
Choose to honor Christ, rather than the honor this world gives us
Sharing the gospel is not only something to be learned by also to be applied.
Personally I think I should focus on watering instead of sowing as I admit I am not skilled yet in the latter especially now that I know its equally important.

Mark 16

A heart thay acknowledges a risen Jesus is a heart in awe of him.

I. The history of Mark's ending

[Some of the earliest manuscripts do not include 16:9–20.]
There is an abrupt change in Mark where the added endind doesn't fit with the previous verses however the other books in the bible support the added ending. Such as I Corinthians which predates the Gospels.

II. The completeness of the ending
Even if it were to end in verse 8 it would still be sufficient to prove the ressurection of Jesus specifically Mark 16:6

Take away the ressuraction and we have a powerless Gospel—full of empty promises that do not deliver. (1 Corinthians 15:17)

III. The astonishment of the ending of Mark.

The reaction of astonishment amazement and fear of the women is reflected throughout Mark where the exact same words are used as a reaction to Jesus and what he does.

Are we also gripped with amazement at the resurrection?

Personally I'm more gripped with amazement at his death but I forget about the resurrection when it is just as important.

Playin with Boldness (Acts 4:23-30)
"Our doing for God must come from a deep trust in God"
How did the early church pray?
1. The early Church had a deep trust in God.
This is because they recognized his sovereignty and the insignificance of the creation compared to it's creator. Prayer always begims with a right understanding of God.
2. Their trust in God comes from a hope grounded in his word
-God knows what he is doing
-He is good
-He is in charge
3. A desire to do his will
-prayer is not just one way communication. -pray for the strength to do his will not for an easy life.

Prayer
In the face of the Passion Jeus sought Gid in prayer to fulfill his plan of Salvation

I. Empowering for the Passion (v 32-34)

- Jesus sought God's strength through prayer and exhorted his disciples to do the same.
- Jesus prayed in a garden that he potentially frequented along with his 3 closest Disciples.
- In the face of great distress Jesus response was to watch and pray.
- To watch means to be alert against the enemy and be sensitive to God's leading sometimes it's easy to think of our problems or external things as the enemy but the real enemy'sis our flesh within.
- The disciples were not instructed to watch for the betrayer but to resist the fear of the Devil.
- Jesus was not only afraid of the physical pain but the bearing of Sin
-Many pray let this cup pass away but few pray thy will be done
- Jesus showed us how to pray in times of distress and times of calm. Even if you're afraid don't let it stop you from praying.

My prayer life hasn't been good as I'm always looking for the ideal time to pray but there's never an ideal time.

II. Embracing the Passion
- Jesus prayer helped strengthen him and face his fate with authority and peace fully willing to give his life.
- They captured him in darkness because they expected resistance not knowing that Jesus was not like the other "Messiahs" that were armed rebels.
- Isaiah 53: 7-8 was fulfilled.
- Look to the Lord's example and experience, to his wrestling in prayer in the face of the passion and you will find the strength to face your own.
