From the archive today we share a 7" single of “So Alive” by Love and Rockets released in 1989. “So Alive” marked a dramatic shift for the band. Though they had post-punk and goth roots from Bauhaus, this track leaned more toward glam-rock and dance-pop, which helped shape the hit as we know it today.
The music video for “So Alive” was directed by Howard Greenhalgh and produced by Pamela James, featuring the iconic long legs that feature on the artwork front cover.

The Cult’s “Go West (Crazy Spinning Circles)”. The B-side of the release features “Sea and Sky,” a track that originated during the band’s Death Cult era, when it was known as “The Waste of Love.”

We have partnered with Good Neighbor Music, an environmentally conscious record manufacturing company, to create a very special, limited-edition version of Telekon on their patented PET (polyethylene terephthalate) alternative to traditionally pressed vinyl. The sustainability goals of Good Neighbor align with that of Beggars Group, and we are happy to utilize their patented eco conscious product for this forward-thinking album.

Good Neighbor is on a mission to help the music industry take critical steps towards a cleaner supply chain and sustainable future. Their product is an alternative to old school PVC records and is made of a fully recyclable material, produced using an injection molding process instead of the hydraulic press, which emits much less carbon. The exact amount of PET required is injected into the mold and there is virtually zero waste.

Gary Numan's second studio album TELEKON was released in 1980 and was his third successive #1 album in the UK. Gary refers to this album, along with its two predecessors, Tubeway Army's Replicas and his debut solo album The Pleasure Principle, as the “machine” phase of his career.
While it was hard to follow up the previous releases, Telekon proved to be hugely influential. Unlike its predecessors, Telekon had plenty of guitars, along with strings and lush synthesizer textures. Trent Reznor claimed to have listened to it every day during the making of Pretty Hate Machine.

Originally released in 2005 on Beggars Banquet imprint Mantra Recordings, The Best Of Natacha Atlas gathered together highlights from her groundbreaking career alongside a selection of new recordings and reimagined versions. The compilation reflects Atlas’s wide-ranging influences, from Arabic classical music to electronica, funk and Western pop. The collection also features striking covers, including her haunting interpretation of Françoise Hardy’s “Mon Amie La Rose”, the James Bond theme “You Only Live Twice”, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put A Spell On You” and James Brown’s “(It’s a Man’s Man’s) Man’s World”.
