Formed in 1988, Silverfish released their debut album Fat Axl in 1990 via the Wiiija label. The band, consisting of Scottish powerhouse vocalist Lesley Rankine, Andrew “Fuzz” Duprey (guitar), Chris P. Mowforth (bass), and Stuart Watson (drums), were key players in the Camden “lurch” scene—grunge before it was mainstream. Rankine, a fierce feminist, popularised the slogan “Hips, Tits, Lips, Power,” embodying the band's confrontational energy.
Their October 1989 John Peel session captured their raw intensity, including a radio-friendly version of “Shit Out of Luck,”. The recordings reflected their chaotic, loud, and uncompromising live shows, cementing their reputation as a fearless band.

This week we share a collection of The Fall’s EP and album covers, discovered in an old art folder...

Formed in Manchester in 1976 The Fall - Music was led by founder Mark E. Smith, who remained the group's constant member for over 40 years. Throughout its history, nearly 50 core members have come and gone, with numerous guest musicians contributing at various times. By 2018, the band had released 32 studio albums, over 50 singles, and nearly 100 live albums, compilations, and box sets.

The group’s music has gone through several stylistic changes over the years, but is often characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, always underpinned by Smith’s distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.

In collaboration with Full Kit, we are releasing two limited-edition football shirts, with every penny of the profits to be donated to @warchilduk, who also hosted the Independent Label Cup.

These custom-designed, breathable football shirts were inspired by the Independent Label 5-a-side Tournament held in London in July 2024. The design features a striking teal and black wave sublimation, embroidered Arkive and Beggars Banquet logos from across the label’s history.
