I began videotaping trains on Colorado's Denver-Pueblo Joint Line in December 1985, with an RCA VHS camcorder. Since then I have filmed trains throughout Colorado, throughout much of the United States, and briefly in England. For many years I used a Panasonic AG-450 Super-VHS “Reporter” camcorder. For the last twenty years, I have been filming using a Canon GL-2. Why have I not upgraded to something more contemporary? The primary reason is that I like filming in the standard definition (4:3) aspect ratio, as opposed to high definition (6:9). Folks think that high def makes the screen larger by expanding the left and right sides. Instead, I think high def cuts off the top and bottom of the screen. Go to any IMAX theatre. Look at the dimensions of the screen. It’s 4:3! I also really like Canon’s GL-2. My passion is for Colorado and Southwest railroads, for the beautiful scenery that they traverse. Much of my latest work has concentrated there.

Santa Fe Railway B40-8 no. 7448 led an eastbound manifest freight through Las Animas, Colorado, in October 1998. Post-Santa Fe merger railroad Burlington Northern Santa Fe was only a few years in existence by this time. Therefore, it would be some time before the railroad's fleet of predecessor locomotives would be renumbered, repainted or retired. This variety of paint schemes enhances the next production to premiere on this channel, entitled, "Oct 1998 BNSF Brush, Pikes Peak & Boise City Subs. BNSF GP50 SD40-2 B40-8 C41-8W SD70MAC UP AC4400CW." Posting is scheduled for New Years Day, Thursday, January 1st, 2026, at 2:45pm MST. Please click on the picture to see the full image.

The eastbound American Orient Express just crossed County Road 57, west of Granby, Colorado, during the early 2000s. This special train would become one of the many victims of the recession of 2008/09, and cease operating at that time. Other classic passenger cars, on the rear of Amtrak trains, and the Winter Park Ski Train, appear in this spectacular video of trains, to premiere on this channel, entitled, "Oct 1998 Amtrak Calif. Zephyr, Glenwood Canyon Freights, American Orient Express, Colo Western Slope." Posting is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:45pm MST. Please click on the picture to see the full image.

General Electric Locomotive Management Services (LMX) had a fleet of small B40-8 diesels, which they leased primarily to Burlington Northern, and subsequently to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. In August 1998, LMX no. 8516 pulled the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey (red unit) circus train south out of downtown Colorado Springs. LMX grey, red and white was one of the many railroad paint schemes that graced the rails following the corporate mega mergers of the 1990s. A taste of this action, as well as the circus train, are featured in the next production to premiere on this channel, entitled, "Aug. 1998 Merger Era Freights & The Ringling Circus Train, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus." Posting is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 2:45pm MDT. Please click on the picture to see the full image.
