The Journey of Dinosaurs: A Scientific Perspective
Millions of years ago, dinosaurs appeared on Earth during the Triassic Period. They lived in a world very different from ours, with vast forests, rivers, and warm climates. Scientists believe that dinosaurs evolved from earlier reptile-like ancestors and gradually became one of the most successful groups of animals on Earth.
As time passed, dinosaurs changed and adapted to different environments. Some were huge plant-eaters, such as Brachiosaurus, while others were fast and powerful meat-eaters, such as Tyrannosaurus rex. Fossils, footprints, and preserved bones help scientists understand how these amazing animals lived, moved, and interacted with their surroundings.
Dinosaurs ruled many land ecosystems for more than 160 million years. During this long period, new species appeared while others disappeared. Scientists study fossils and use modern technologies to learn about dinosaur growth, behavior, diet, and even their relationship with modern birds. In fact, birds are considered living descendants of a group of feathered dinosaurs.
About 66 million years ago, a massive asteroid struck Earth near what is now Mexico. The impact caused major environmental changes, and most dinosaur species became extinct. However, not all dinosaur descendants disappeared. Birds survived and continue to live on Earth today. The scientific study of dinosaurs therefore tells a remarkable story of evolution, adaptation, survival, and extinction.
