🎸 Which one are you?

👉 OPTION 1: Beginner-level guitarist just trying to learn basic fingerstyle so you can play songs

👉 OPTION 2: Self-taught guitarist who's hit the intermediate plateau & doesn't know how to progress to the advanced level

I want to help you get past whatever barriers you're currently facing on the guitar! But in order to do that, I need to understand where you're at.

Above are two of the most common roadblocks I see–please vote in the poll below telling me which one describes you :)

Not all arrangements are created equal… 🎸

You know Smoke on the Water, right? It's probably the first riff most guitarists learn—simple, iconic, and fun.

But did you know some versions of this song are so advanced that even experienced guitarists struggle to play them?

That’s the magic of arrangements. It’s not just about playing the song—it’s about reimagining it. You can take the same notes and transform them into something completely new: fingerstyle, classical, jazz, or even a mind-blowing solo guitar masterpiece.

Creating your own arrangement starts with asking, "What if?"

- What if I change the rhythm?
- What if I add harmonics or use fingerpicking?
- What if I play the melody and chords at the same time?

Every time you explore these questions, you bring out something unique that reflects your style and skill.

Just check out these two different versions of the classic 0-3-5:

Some random beginner I found on YouTube: youtube.com/shorts/Hmc2JADb8q...

Ichika Nito, a highly advanced fingerstyle electric guitarist: https://youtu.be/mlqZdpRT8Ng?si=ROi_h...

🤯 Insane, right? It’s hard to believe that those two arrangements stem from the same song!

But now you know, so you won’t be like most ignorant beginners who think there’s only 1 way to play a song.

👉 If you could transform any song into your own arrangement, which one would it be?

What's your biggest struggle with learning fingerstyle guitar?

Oryam Bisset | Tutorials

🎸 If you’ve been playing the C, G, Am, F chord progression to death, here are four creative alternatives that will take your guitar playing to new heights. Let’s break down each one:

1️⃣ G - D - Em7 - Cadd9 (Key of G)
This progression is a breeze, and the trick here is to use your ring finger as an anchor on the 3rd fret of the B string for all four chords. That continuity adds a nice smoothness to your transitions. Plus, the notes on the high E string adds subtle magic—use that to your advantage for beautiful melodies!

2️⃣ D - Asus4 - Bm - Gmaj7 (Key of D)
A little more challenging with some barre action. A secret weapon here is your pinky—use it to add flavor on the 3rd and 5th frets of the high E and B strings. You can also play around with Bm7 and sus chords to create more depth and emotion in your playing.

3️⃣ E - Badd11 - C#m7 - Aadd9 (Key of E)
We’re leaving the 1st and 2nd strings open on these barre chord shapes for an airy sound. The result is a dreamy vibe, perfect for ballads or anything that needs that extra emotional edge. Try adding natural harmonics on the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets for a unique touch.

4️⃣ Dadd9 - A7add4 - Bm7 - Gmaj7 (Key of D)
This one’s my favorite. With open D and high E strings ringing out, this progression creates a rich, full sound with an extra dose of soul. The 7th notes on the high E string bring out a nice tension when played with the A, B and G chords—experiment with that for a sound that stands out!

These progressions offer a fresh take on your playing and will make even simple songs sound more interesting. 🎶 If you want to dive deeper into how to use these in your practice and songs, check out my full breakdown in my latest video: https://youtu.be/b42Rq8YkrmQ 🎥
