Today we remember Joe Gibbs, born on October 14, 1942, a producer who left an indelible mark on Jamaican reggae. From his humble beginnings in Kingston, where he started recording artists in his small workshop, Gibbs became a central figure in reggae music during the 70s and 80s.
He worked with iconic artists like Dennis Brown, Big Youth, and Black Uhuru, producing tracks that became classics, such as “Money in My Pocket” and “Love of the Common People.” His collaboration with sound engineer Errol Thompson, known as “The Mighty Two,” resulted in an impressive number of hits in Jamaica.
Today, we celebrate his legacy and his contribution to reggae music, remembering how his productions continue to resonate in the current musical culture. Joe Gibbs, your influence endures.
