I just did something frugal that I’ve never done before. This inflation is crazy! I just bought some excellent smoked pork fried rice…and cut it with steamed rice I made myself. Hard times!
Sacramento in 1987. My mom taught me about value at the Macy’s clearance racks; it’s better to buy quality stuff at clearance than cheap stuff at the regular price. If we had money left over, we’d eat at the Lyon’s restaurant attached to the back of Macy’s. If there was only a little bit of money left over, we’d eat at Woolworths 5 blocks over.
Separately, my first girlfriend took me to eat at the restaurant on the third floor of Weinstocks, and to me, it seemed like the fanciest place ever. I had a Chinese chicken salad.
I just learned today that Nacho Libre was based on a real person. I googled it because …ya know…lots of BS on social media. Turns out it’s a true story. One of my favorite movies is Nacho Libre and it turns out it was based on the true story of father Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez who founded and supported an orphanage for 23 years as a lucha libre wrestler! I love the movie even more now!

I tried Nigerian, Caribbean, Soul Food and BBQ last time and it was all excellent. The best BBQ (there were several) sold out fast so I’ll be there early this time.
Next month is Jewish Food Festival and I’ll be there too!
