Crocodile Relocation Story – Buyende District to Murchison Falls National Park

Game rangers carried out an incredible conservation mission — safely relocating crocodiles from a heavily populated fishing community in Buyende District. These crocodiles had settled close to people’s homes along Lake Kyoga, creating a real risk for fishermen and families.

When the rangers pulled the crocodiles out of the lake, the entire community gathered, watching closely and celebrating the effort. This initiative is not only about protecting people from crocodile attacks, but also about saving wildlife and reducing human–wildlife conflict.

The crocodiles were later transported many kilometres and released along the banks of the River Nile in Murchison Falls National Park, where they can thrive safely — far from villages, livestock, and daily human activity.

This relocation shows how conservation teams work to protect both people and wildlife, ensuring peaceful coexistence and safeguarding Uganda’s natural heritage.

Red-tailed monkeys, also known as black-cheeked, white-nosed monkeys, are fascinating primates found in the forests of central and eastern Africa. They have very distinctive features and social behaviour.

While red-tailed monkeys are not currently considered endangered, they face threats such as habitat loss due to deforestation and hunting. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting their habitats and raising awareness about their plight.
