Rajasthan High Court Intervenes Strongly After Advocate Assaulted at Kudi Police Station

A disturbing video of a lawyer being mistreated inside Jodhpur’s Kudi Police Station has sparked widespread criticism across Rajasthan, compelling the High Court to take decisive action.

Although the accused SHO, Hamir Singh, has been suspended, the Court made it clear that this measure is only the first step. After watching the viral clip, the judges delivered a stern warning to Police Commissioner Om Prakash, emphasizing that police officers must be trained not just to enforce the law, but also to communicate respectfully and treat citizens with dignity.

The High Court has now instructed the state government and police department to roll out extensive soft-skills and public-interaction training for all police personnel—from junior constables to top-level officers.

During the hearing, the Commissioner informed the bench that:

The inquiry has been handed over to an IPS-rank officer.

All personnel involved in the incident are being taken off duty until the investigation is over.

A detailed report will be submitted within a week.


The advocate’s complaint states that the SHO and other staff allegedly assaulted him, tore his coat, and threatened to revoke his licence and arrest him under Section 151. The lawyer recorded the entire episode and submitted the footage in court, leaving the police with no space for denial.

In its strong remarks, the High Court asserted that any form of violence, pressure, or harassment directed at lawyers is unacceptable, reminding the police that advocates are officers of the court and partners in the justice process, not opponents.

This incident now stands as a crucial message that while policing demands firmness, it must always remain legal, courteous, and responsible. Authority cannot be misused—and every citizen, including an advocate, is entitled to dignity in a justice-driven democracy.
