The verse from Surah An-Nazi‘at invites us to self-check:

Do I control my desires out of fear and love of Allah — or do I let them control me?


وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ
“And as for the one who feared standing before his Lord and restrained himself from [evil] desire — then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.” (79:40–41)

Meaning & Reflection:

• “مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ” (the standing before his Lord) refers to the Day of Judgment, when every person will stand before Allah and be held accountable for their deeds.
Fearing this moment — not out of despair, but out of awe and awareness — keeps a believer humble and vigilant.

• “وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَى” means restraining the soul from following its lower desires — temptations, anger, greed, arrogance, etc.
It’s about self-discipline and choosing Allah’s pleasure over fleeting worldly cravings.

• “فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَى” — such a person’s final home is Jannah, the eternal place of peace and reward.
