Hi there!

I'm Lora Elaine & welcome to my corner of YouTube where I’ll be sharing about homemaking, city homesteading, traditional cooking, cultured foods, organizational ideas, gardening, health, fitness, motherhood & music because this is where I live much of my life.

If we met in person for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or kombucha, we'd probably be friends if we shared any of the following things in common:

Love for God & theology
Love for learning & reading
Interest in traditional homemaking & city homesteading - it’s a thing
Interest in classical education & Charlotte Mason
Passion for organization, poetry by Longfellow, & purposeful living

Quirks:
- making exit connections in conversations: struggle’s real…yep
- keeping lists of pre-thought questions I want to ask people

I'm currently on a break from all social media for the year 2023 so while you may find my IG account, you won't see any activity there for awhile. ☺️

So, so glad you’re here! 💕

New video is up! All about how to clean and re-season your cast iron skillets. Did you know that cooking with cast iron can be one way to increase your iron intake? Not everyone needs an increase in iron, but menstruating women typically can use a boost that way, and that’s one reason (amongst many) I like to use cast iron when I can. I’m currently pregnant and also want to make sure my iron levels stay within a good range so I’ve been using this pan more often (in addition to other measures for iron). Hope this video’s helpful to you!

Morning sickness is improving - yay! And in some moments of wellness, I recorded some new music. And in some moments of exhaustion, I laid on my couch and did the editing. 😊 Check back tomorrow at 10 AM for the song “Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her.”

I don’t remember when I first heard the song, but the melody gripped me the first time, and it’s been a favorite since then. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! 💕

I don’t have professional recording equipment: just a computer and some earbuds, and I’m still learning GarageBand. But I love singing, and I love learning new things so here’s the product of that! 🎶

As promised, my next video on how to care for stainless steel cookware is finally edited and scheduled for release. Watch for it this Friday at 10 am! I’m testing Fridays as my weekly release day for new videos instead of Thursdays so check back on Fridays for new long form video content. 😊

Just hopping on to say 🌟THANK YOU 🌟for helping me reach 300+ subscribers! I’ve been MIA on here for about a month due to traveling. I posted a few shorts but no long videos. I came back home to several projects needing my ASAP attention (reorganizing my entire pantry/kitchen, planting some things, digging, weeding, grocery shopping, getting kids’ clothing switched out - does that process take anyone else days, weeks to do with all the interruptions? 👀). Anyways, I do hope to finish some longer forms videos and get those uploaded soon! Thanks for being here! 💝

I have a video in the works on caring for stainless steel cookware, but it likely won’t be up for another few weeks. I’ll still be sharing short videos so be sure to check those out, but my long form videos probably won’t be going up until end of April/early May. I’m doing some traveling and won’t be able to post videos regularly while I’m gone.

I filmed a typical evening routine of mine for you, and I share how I realistically keep up with kefir. If you’re looking to start kefir or already have started but feel overwhelmed by the upkeep, check out this video to see how I *easily* fit it into my busy days! *Hint: You don’t need to be making kefir every day. 👀

There’ll be time stamps in the description so you can skip ahead to the part you’re looking for. Hope it’s beneficial to you!

Video uploads at 10AM tomorrow!

I’ve never felt as stretched (physically, mentally, or emotionally) as I have in these early years of motherhood; but, one recent change I’ve just started to implement that has helped me has been reading Puritan prayers or scriptural prayers at meal times instead of sitting down to a meal, feeling famished (physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually) and then just rushing through with, “Thank you, Lord, for this food. Use it to the nourishment of our bodies. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Oftentimes, I’m so depleted at mealtimes that I can hardly come up with more thoughts or different words, and frankly, I too often don’t even thoughtfully say those words. They’re just rotely expressed as a gateway before nourishing my body. Taking a minute or two to read a Puritan prayer or a prayer from Scripture causes my mind to be refocused on the eternal, to be spiritually refreshed before I’m physically refreshed. My soul feasts for a beautiful minute, receiving some spiritual sustenance before my body feasts and regains physical strength.

Doing this three times a day means that I am, at least, thrice made to pause and give consideration to the eternal God, and I’m given loftier, other thoughts than my own that cause me to view Him through eyes of other believers in centuries past, encouraging my heart that He is the same, eternal, wise, loving God I still serve and hope in, just as believers for centuries have done before. He is unchanging.

And this small change in my daily routine has done wonders to lift my spirit throughout the day, to encourage my heart to think on higher things, to model prayer for my children and give them new language in which their understanding of God is being formed, and to give my soul new expressions by which I can praise the Lord and truly give thanks for “my daily bread.”

Hope you’ve had a great week, friends! Look for my video tomorrow at 10 AM on how to make your own beet kvass. This is a great use for whey, and it’s a healthy drink full of probiotics. Similar to kombucha except it doesn’t contain as much sugar as kombucha does. Thanks for being here! 💕
