Thanks for an incredible first year on YouTube! I'm at 68.5 subs so I'll just round that up to 69. Nice. Thanks for all the support, I've been really taken aback by how excellent and well thought through my comments are. I learn a lot from you all! Looking forward to another year!
The "algorithm" quickly flatlined this video -- I suspect due to a way worse dislike ratio than usual. Which is fair... However, it's still getting decent views from people sharing it directly, which is super cool! If you found it thought provoking, consider sharing it with people you think would get something out of it! Like the pre-algo olden days...
And thanks for all the comments! You shifted my perspective on a few things, like the danger of "tech disruption", the importance of avoiding "non-starter" language for more effective communication. You also made me more aware of the complexities around "moral superiority" as a tool for personal conviction and motivation while also being very off-putting to others.
I really appreciate your thoughts. Even the act of disagreeing with someone else can be a useful way to understand what you believe and explore what you care about.
A friend pointed out that the method that worked for me to break my phone addiction is similar to the book "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. This book's method, similarly, doesn't rely on willpower to break the addiction, but understanding the nature of it. It suggests the experience of smoking in itself is not pleasant, more like wearing tight shoes for the pleasure of taking them off. The smoker is encouraged to break the illusion that it is actually the smoking they like in order to quit.
There have been multiple randomized trials that support the Allen Carr's method. If anyone has used it or something similar, I'd be curious how the experience was, whether the physical addiction aspects were truly possible to overcome with the change in mindset.

I'm disappointed it came to this because he put a lot of time and effort in and other editors mentioned having good experiences with him. Reading the list of inappropriate comment examples, there is a pattern of him editing in a way that is strange or inconvenient for others, getting called out (sometimes rudely), and then responding in kind. I can see why it would be confusing what tone of comments is acceptable – I think he was trying to pattern match the kinds of comments he received from others.
I think the main issue was that he never stopped to think about how his actions impacted others. His frequent tiny edits make the diff tools unusable, he made requests of editors that wasted their time. His goal seemed to be to get FA status for the pages he cared about, but that goal wasn’t for readers, it was for him. I’m sorry it turned out this way, but I appreciate the thought and care the admins put into their decision of how to handle it.
I keep reading comments that "sewage entering the water supply in the middle ages was a myth". I'm a bit confused, I get that people weren't doing this intentionally, but many major diseases like cholera and typhoid fever are all acquired from the "oral-fecal" route. People who drank milk might avoid cholera outbreaks.
What exactly is the statement of the myth being mentioned?
