I have a pretty significant update on what happened across Peru yesterday -- especially in Lima where I have been going through the city's security camera footage much of the morning and will share highlights of the violence that occured once I am able to get it all together later today. All of Peru's protests seemed to be calm and peaceful, but it looked like perhaps delinquents in Lima decided to make things much worse here. (That is often the case.) There was once death and 102 reported injuries. Things are calm this morning so there's nothing upcoming to report right now, but it's certainly not over. Check back for lots more later today!
The sudden onset of a cold (resfrio) has me feeling poor this afternoon, but maybe my favorite hamburger from La Lucha Sanguchería Criolla will help. Has anyone ever eaten at one of these in Lima?
Try this yourself. Go stand in front of a camera on a tripod in a major city park and try to give an update on the political situation while random people passing by stop and watch from behind the camera. I have zero experience as an on-camera journalist. I've been interviewed on camera lots of times, but never been the one doing the primary talking. Filming a short piece this morning in Lima was interesting, to say the least!
I am getting closer to doing a live stream. Which of these would be your preferred topic for the first one? Unlike most YouTubers, I only want to talk about things that I actually know about. Please leave any other suggestions or ideas in a comment.
I just finished editing a video about the route from the hidroelectrica to Machu Picchu along the river which is used by those who want to save a huge amount of money on their trip to MaPi. It's also perhaps the best day hike in all of Peru. In the video, I take you along with more for the entire route showing all kinds of things that even the people who live along the path don't know. It's taking a LONG time to upload, but should be available today.

I'm not sure how it will work, but an active community about my home and the place I most love to share about can't be bad! I'd love to hear ideas for new videos or podcasts and any suggestions (and even criticisms) to make things better. While this is NOT a commercial channel, the bottom line is about sharing and making my stuff better is always a goal.
Wednesday was spent filming a long video tour of Circuit 2 at Machu Picchu which I hope to post soon. It was probably the most crowded I have ever seen the site even though it was still a little under capacity on that day. I was a little surprised that, despite the huge crowd, most people -- mostly Europeans -- were really respectful, friendly, and courteous -- especially at the usual "selfie" congestion points.
Despite being sick during the past week, climbing that big mountain rising in the distance is still my plan for the coming week. Videos of the La Montaña Machu Picchu route, what it's like on PeruRail's bi-modal "Expedition" train to MaPi, and more are on the agenda this week. Keep your fingers crossed...
I spent the morning filming in Arequipa's Monasterio Santa Catalina -- easily the most photogenic place in Peru -- and managed a few pics with my old celular. I think this will be a video about scenes and colors and history without any words as that's what the day calls for most.
The hard part about finding interesting things while traveling is slowing down and looking. Experiencing a place will give you memories for life. Selfies say "look at me" and give you pics no one really cares about.
