DAY 10 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Learn

Today is the last day of our little exercise here in our community post. So far, we have talked about a lot of topics all buttressing the fact that God makes us better nurses, medical professionals, and better individuals as a whole.
But this is only possible if we give ourselves to be taught, if we allow God to work on us.

One thing I have been learning about prayer is that, prayer is not only an avenue to request from God, it also allows God to do a work in us and a good work at that.

Everything we talked about, from guarding our hearts against bitterness, to compassion, to leading with love, to all of it, these can only be possible only if we can allow God do a good work in us. We need to submit ourselves to the training and refining power of God.

You can't just do it genuinely because you decide to be "good", you can't do it by yourself.
I know a nurse, she was my senior. This nurse has a beautiful character, even when she had the right to be angry, the way she would handle the situation, I always used to admire her because of how she handled things and how she behaved generally. I thought to myself that it was really nice seeing someone who genuinely had love and compassion in their hearts even after working for so long. When I knew her a little more, I knew she had a relationship with Jesus, a real relationship. That's what makes the difference.

It is God that makes the difference, only God. So yeah, all these we talked about, if you actually want to live by them, go to God and stay with Him. There has to be a change in us first before there can be a change in our environs.

Thank you guys so much for sticking with me throughout this little exercise we had in our community post.

See you soon. By the way, a video is dropping tomorrow 5pm WAT. Bye guys 🤗❤️

DAY 9 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Nurses are Wicked

As nurses, medical professionals, or as individuals, generally, we might have had people say nurses are wicked, that they can be strict, mean, and all. Being a nurse, it could be annoying because you'd think to yourself, if someone had a bad experience with a nurse, they don't have to generalise it.

Then, the misconception of thinking that wickedness is part of the package of being a nurse. Other medical professionals might also have a slice of this sour-tasting cake.
Sometimes, we might want to stand up for nurses as a collective and speak against this or "fight" anybody who says nurses are wicked. Please save yourself the stress.
This is what God taught me, you don't convince people of your morals or character by arguments or words, you show them. See it in this scripture;

1 Peter 2:12 GNT
Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming.

The bible didn't say that you have to "fight" people to convince them of your good-standing as a person or as a group, you show them. You can't act or represent your fellow nurse through your character, your character speaks only for you. So, in essence, everybody has a responsibility to portray themselves in the right way, not by being fake, but because that's who you are, knowing that you have the Holy Spirit living in you.

Tomorrow will be Day 10 and the last day for "How God Makes Me A Better Nurse" post. Hope you have enjoyed it so far, see you tomorrow 😊❤️

DAY 8 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Do

Some days back, compassion was the topic. The lesson then was the fact that compassion isn't just a feeling, it's a decision. What is the dictionary definition of compassion; a deep awareness of the suffering of others that people have, to the point of them being motivated to RELIEVE such states. Keyword - RELIEVE

There is a big difference between compassion and pity. Pity is shown more in our feelings, while compassion is an action word. So, in being compassionate, there has to be the doing aspect of it. Think of it this way;
Pity says: I feel your pain
Compassion says: I feel your pain, and I will help.

When Jesus saw the multitude and had compassion on them, this compassion led Him to do, to heal the sick. So He did. His compassion wasn't empty.

The whole essence of being a nurse is to DO. You have to DO. I mean, your compassion, your care, your love, and your kindness towards your patients must show in what you do to relieve their pain and how you do it. How you do it is even more important, but first of all, DO!

Happy Tuesday, beautiful people ❤️🤗

DAY 7 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Aura For Aura

"Do me, I do you, man no go vex." Really? When we come to the hospital setting, this mentality has to be scraped off. In our relationship with colleagues, in our relationship with patients, scrap off this mentality completely.

A matron treated you badly, or a senior, or even someone on the same level with you treated you badly and you are waiting for the right opportunity to "do them back." Again, I say really?

If the kindness or love in our hearts is only activated if the next person treats us well, then I would say we have some growing up to do. Sometimes, patients are literally having the worst day in their lives. I know this shouldn't be an excuse to treat people badly, but then again, we are dealing with people. So, in this case, they become disrespectful or say hurtful things, what would you do in that case?

Like I said in Day 1, you can control your reaction, but not the other person's reaction. Having the mentality of treating people how they treat you is not the way of Jesus.

If you are someone that struggles with this, breath in and out and allow Jesus to speak through you in cases where your normal response would have been 'I will show them' or 'nobody disrespects me and goes away just like that'.

Be calm, have an upright spirit, remove anger from your heart, don't crack your brain on how you will do back, relax. Do the "God-thing"

Have a wonderful week ahead. Feel free to share your thoughts at any time ❤️🤗

DAY 6 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Lead with Love

Put forth your best foot, people normally say. But what does that mean? To portray the best possible part of yourself, at least to show it first.

Jesus tells us that this "best foot" should be love. As nurses, if we see our patients as brothers or sisters who might be struggling health-wise, it would become easier to show forth love as the first response.

It's important for love to be the first response, apart from the fact that first impressions matter, love should be your default state. If we see God as a provider, a protector, a comforter, and all He is to and for us, and we don't see Him as Love, then we aren't getting the full picture. God is love. He showed love FIRST. Even before we knew that we needed it, He loved us.

Jesus said if we do good only to those who do good to us, then what do we gain? we have just done the normal thing. In situations where your flesh tells you to respond with violence, choose 'the God-approach'.

The month of February might be what God used to inspire me for this, but then the month of February or not, do everything in love. Love should be your default state.

Happy New Month, beautiful people ❤️🤗

DAY 5 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Line Upon Line

Today is day 5, and I find it hard organising my thoughts. The concept of today's discussion is getting there, little by little, brick by brick, step by step, line upon line.
'There' could mean different things, different destinations for each of us. But when it comes to careers and being better at our craft, God has been teaching me that taking the next step is very important. He has already given us the grace, so we should work at it.

Sometimes, we might feel confused, asking ourselves, what's this next step. We might be asking, begging, if I am being more accurate for a little bit of certainty, but I think this will help;

Psalm 126:5 KJV
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

The tears there can vary depending on the situation. But the point is, taking the next step in your career might come with a lot of uncertainty and fear, but fear is not of God, so yeah, you know what to do.
Little by little, brick by brick, step by step, line upon line.

Happy weekend, beautiful people🤗❤️ Have you ever struggled with decision-making in your career?

DAY 4 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

I Don't Like Myself Whenever I Do This.

One Saturday morning, I came back from my place of work at the time (a hospital), complaining about how there's alot to do all the time and few people to do it. Sometimes, there wouldn't be anyone available at all.
I kept complaining that if my place of work stresses me too much, I would quit. Funny enough, I enjoyed working there because my colleagues and other workmates were peaceful and friendly. But somehow, that particular day was just one of the bad days.

I didn't like myself like that, murmuring, complaining, and all, with no solution. So, I decided to find a solution for myself with God. Two scriptures came to mind:

Colossians 3:23 KJV
...and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men

Philippians 2:14 KJV
Do all things without murmurings and disputings.

So, I started working on it. Whenever I want to complain or murmur, I drink some water, at least drinking water won't hurt😄
But the part of doing all things heartily, key words - all things - we are not yet there, but we are working on it. When I say we, I mean I and the Holy Spirit.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts 🤗❤️

DAY 3 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

You Fell (ill) Again?

Have you ever had a patient who came in complaining of something? They were treated, they recovered, and were discharged. Then only about a few days later they came in again with the same condition because of a mistake on their end which could've totally been avoided. I guess we have all been there, right?

Okay, a little story time. We once had a patient who had pleural space issues, I think it was pneumothorax, if I remember correctly, so he had a chest tube, and still he left the hospital to smoke.

When I look back, it's kind of funny. But the Holy Spirit says this can be us sometimes. We make obvious mistakes that can lead us astray, and then we go to God for treatment, He treats us, and then we repeat the cycle again. So, again, the Holy Spirit is telling me, I am being patient with you, so be patient with your patients.
(Did you see the lines there? Lol 😂)

I would love to hear what you guys think 🤗❤️

DAY 2 - HOW GOD MAKES ME A BETTER NURSE

Wear Compassion As Clothes

As nurses or medical professionals, what we see on a daily can be a lot of things, and if we are not careful, we see it as normal.
I remember the first day I saw a child d*e, the way I was, crying and all, you'd think I was his relative, to the point that I had to excuse myself from that space. But when this happens a couple of times, you'd almost think it's normal. I had to take this to God, telling Him how I felt about it, how it's almost becoming normal, and whether it would make me someone with a 'cold heart'.

He led me to this scripture:

Colossians 3:12 GNT
You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

This tells me that compassion isn't just a feeling, it's an intention. We have to wear compassion as a clothe. And just as Jesus saw the multitude(Matt 9:36), he was moved with compassion, and he acted, he did, so we also have to do.

Happy Wednesday, I would love to hear your thoughts 😊❤️
