This video series documents the build of my little race car. From a broken dusty wreck sitting out the back of an old couple's house, to a dedicated race car that will eventually compete in the one make Hyundai Excel series here in Australia.
I'm by no means a mechanic or engineer, so follow along as i bumble through this build and race this sucker :)

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, well this old dog is working on learning lots of new tricks at the moment.
I bought this 3D scanner a couple of months ago after saving up my brake duct sales pennies, however i've been focused on making money lately and a bit time poor.
Today i busted out the new scanner and learnt how to use it, creating scans of Superdub's boot open, closed and the spoiler.
I've got a few designs i want to create off of these scans, some i could definitely do without the scan but there's no better way to learn than to do it.
For those who are new to this tech, the misconception is that a scanner is there to scan something and then just print a replica, and although this is somewhat possible in some instances the real magic lies in using the scan as a reference to build parts off.
For example with these scans i want to create spacer blocks for the spoiler so i can raise the spoiler up 40 or 50mm on the other mr2 to make it a little sportier, i can use the spoiler scan to make sure my designs line up and match the shape of the spoiler as well as the mounting studs and the boot lid to make sure the mounting holes line up, plus i can just put it all together in a virtual world and see how it looks!
I'm very new to this but have been doing a lot reading, watching and learning and now it's just a matter of doing it. I'm aiming to scan and design a new thing every week regardless of if i need the part or end up making it, it's the process i need to go through, practice makes perfect :)

It's a sad day today as it's my last day with the Kemppi MIG welder in the Nugget Project workshop. It was just a couple of week loan from the STREET MACHINE Carnage Show workshop while Scotty was away.
This thing along with the helmet and gloves is unreal, over the past couple of weeks i've done a heap of repairs on the thin sheet metal body work on the Superdub project using 0.6mm wire and today i converted it back to 0.8mm and repaired the rusted front crash bar. This welder almost makes me look like i know what i'm doing!
I'd love to get one of these bad boys in the Nugget Project workshop, or even better a Tig so i can learn to make intercoolers, overflow tanks, catch cans and all those fun things!
What do you reckon Kemppi Australia? *eyebrows eyebrows*

So, i've sold some hoodies and some brake ducts, what am i buying with the money I made?
Well first off, i paid off the car! I had to borrow a bit of money from our homeloan offset account to get this car so i paid that back.
Next, i bought a cheapo sheet metal folder, it's only basic but will be perfect for the sheet metal on the MR2, there are a few tricky bends and folds i'll need to replicate so i got this, funnily enough this cost me $105 delivered which is exactly how much i got paid from youtube for the past two months, so that worked out dandy!
Next up i got some big end bearings to replace the mediocre ones in the 4age, turns out not as easy to find as i thought as this is a first generation 4age it has a smaller 40mm crank and those bearings aren't around in Australia, so i got these from overseas, but still they only cost $85 delivered, i thought that was pretty good.
I also got some cutting discs, a new gas reg for the welder and other bits and bobs for fixing this thing.
I now have a few hundred bucks sitting in the nug fund, i'm going to save up, add to it and then order some panels from a mob in canada that remake small sections for the rear quarter (the bottom sections in front of and behind the rear wheels where they are notorious for rusting).
The panels are $95 canadian each, i'm still working out if i need all 4 corners or if i can fix a couple of them with sheet metal and a hammer, either way that will be the next purchase and hopefully the last thing i'll need to buy to finish the rust repairs on the chassis. After that i'll have to track down a new fender and i have found a new front skirt i want to buy from NZ (hopefully they don't hold me over the coals on shipping!
So i'll keep making brake ducts, gauge pods and creating new fun merch, i've got an item of clothing in the works that is somewhat motorsport related that will look good and be functional 🙂
Thanks for coming to my TED talk...

Our mates at Protex sent over a care package for us!
We've got some of their ulta discs and ceramic ultra pads for my GT Liberty along with a special treat, a rad offroad RC car that i'll be giving away to one lucky viewer!
Check in on the next episode of the Nug project to see how you can win this wicked little car (and yes i've been 'testing' the RC car ;) )

Even though racecars don't have to be pretty, I still think it's nice to make the car look good as it usually costs nothing more than a bit of extra effort. and let's be honest, racecars are cool and it's fun to make them look rad :)
Now I've ditched the stock blower I didn't need the heater controls anymore so I made up a new centre panel and black vinyl wrapped it with a bit of a cog graphic, bit more on that in the upcoming video :)

This is only a little channel, but it's pretty cool seeing it grow, we are WELL away from my ultimate goal of a youtube award (100,000 subs) but if it goes no further than this i'm still happy 🙂
I regularly get messages from people saying my vids have helped them when building their cars, excel or otherwise and even a few who said the channel inspired them to start their project in the first place which is amazing! and so humbling.
I've met some genuinly lovely people through this whole thing and a few i'm proud to call good mates who i believe will be life long friends.
Thanks for watching friends, here's hoping for more content including one day in the future, a new racecar build, but that's a story for another time 😉
