Reports from the ‪@unitednations‬ Environment Programme and the Energy Transitions Commission confirm that global temperatures will almost certainly exceed the 1.5C limit agreed in the Paris Agreement and will probably rise by more than 2C.

The ‪@UNEP‬ report calls for a new approach on climate governance to prevent the worst impacts of a temperature overshoot: www.sustainableviews.com/navigating-overshoot-shou…

El Niño, the term used to describe the warming of sea surface temperatures, happens every few years and is typically concentrated in the central-east equatorial Pacific. El Niño events are associated with widespread changes in the climate system, including increased rainfall, cyclones and global average temperatures. This year is on course to experience the largest El Niño in living history.

The extreme weather event is amplified by climate change, and businesses may be ill-prepared as they experience increased commodity costs, interruptions and costs of logistics and freight, and insurance premiums.

“Where are we as experts and technical people, who have the responsibility to help our businesses survive and thrive and transform?” asks Velislava Ivanova, EY's global chief sustainability strategist. “I don’t think sustainability professionals have been active enough in raising awareness and helping businesses model their impacts."

‪@OpenAI‬ and ‪@anthropic-ai‬ could face growing investor scrutiny over the #fossil-fuel intensity of the data centres powering their #AI ambitions.

New ‪@Sustainable-Views‬ analysis estimates that fossil fuels account for around 76% of the electricity mix across data centres attributed to OpenAI, when planned and operating behind-the-meter gas generation is incorporated, compared with roughly 64% for Anthropic.

Those figures sit above the US grid baseline of 58%.

Investors say the issue is likely to come under greater scrutiny if the companies go public: www.sustainableviews.com/are-data-centres-on-clean…
