Most people think being a leader means having all the answers. They think the job is to tell people exactly what to do. But in my experience, a command and control style kills innovation and burns out staff.
When you give a command, you get compliance. When you ask a question, you get commitment. I discovered that this is called The Socratic Leadership Method.
• Curiosity First: Ask at least three questions before offering a solution. • Empowerment Inquiry: Instead of "Do this," ask "What do you think the next step should be?" • Reflective Loop: After a lesson, ask "What did we learn that can make us 10% better?"
I worked with a principal whose desk was piled with small problems. We shifted her to this method. Within a month, those problems dropped tremendously. Her teachers felt more confident and she finally had time to focus on the big picture.
Imagine your brain is a dense forest. When you try to learn something new, there are no trails. It is thick and frustrating. To learn, you have to hack a path through the brush.
The first time is exhausting. You might get lost. This is the "I don't get it" phase. But every time you try a new problem, you are packing down the dirt. Eventually, that difficult concept becomes a clear trail.
• The burn is growth: That frustration you feel is the physical evidence of your brain building a path. • Walking old trails: If the work is easy, you are just walking a path you already built. You aren't growing. • Building new ones: If the work is hard, you are becoming smarter in real time.
You are the architect of your own mind. Do not run from the struggle. That is where the path begins.
What is your internal narrative? The stories we tell ourselves hold incredible power! Do you focus on positivity, resilience, and growth? Or are you stuck in cycles of self-doubt and negativity? Our thoughts shape our perceptions, ultimately influencing how we see ourselves and the world around us. This week, let’s begin to rewrite those narratives!

Your current situation is not your permanent address.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it…
I went from sleeping in my car at 19 to speaking on stages around the world.
London. Bermuda. Edmonton. Virgin Islands.
Schools. Nonprofits. Organizations. Corporations.
Not because I was the most talented person in the room.
But because I refused to let the room I was in become the ceiling of what I believed was possible.
Here’s what I know about you:
You are sitting on potential that your current environment hasn’t fully seen yet.
The question is, are YOU seeing it?
Stop shrinking to fit where you are.
Start expanding to become where you’re going.
The room you’re in is temporary.
Your potential is not.

This is a challenge for every educator in my network.
This week find one student in your building who you know the least about.
Not their discipline record.
Not their test scores.
Them. Their interests. Their story. Their people.
Then ask yourself honestly, have I given them the same curiosity I give students I already believe in?
Cultural awareness means being willing to sit with that answer, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Justice in classrooms doesn’t start with policy.
It starts with that moment.
