Nicola Benedetti and The Benedetti Foundation

Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought-after violinists of her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her innate musicianship and spirited presence, coupled with her wide appeal as a high-profile advocate for classical music, has made her one of the most influential classical artists of today.

Nicola was just awarded her first-ever GRAMMY® for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for her recently released recording of the Wynton Marsalis Violin Concerto with the legendary Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Cristian Măcelaru on Decca Classics. She had the honor of performing live on the 2020 GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony® where she collected her award in person. Her performance, which marked the first classical solo violin appearance on the Premiere Ceremony® in over 10 years, was streamed live internationally via GRAMMY.com.

A dedicated educator and advocate for music education, Nicola founded the Benedetti Foundation in 2019.

Nicola Benedetti and The Benedetti Foundation

The depth of love and fascination I have for Elgar and his music has made this entire process a dream. He was so out of the ordinary, from his non-traditional training to his understanding of people to his style of expression in music - there is only one Edward Elgar, and I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to record so much of his music.

The centrepiece is his vast Violin Concerto in B minor, Op. 61 coupled with three short works for violin and piano: Salut d’Amour, Sospiri and Chanson de Nuit.

LEARN WITH NICKY

As part of our ‘With Nicky’ series, Nicky will be teaching
Elgar’s Salut d’amour through daily YouTube tutorials. These will take place each day 10th April - Thursday 16th April at 10am BST.
Teaching this beautiful piece, I will be exploring topics including sound production, vibrato, how to choose fingering and bowing and storytelling and expression.
Whether you have played Salut d’amour before, or you’re brand new to this piece, it doesn’t matter – anyone can join in!

We’re going to run a little competition as well. To enter, we ask you to send us your performance of Salut d’amour before 5pm on Thursday 16th to info@benedettifoundation.org. Full instructions of how to submit your entry can be found on our Benedetti Foundation website:

SALUT D’AMOUR MUSIC VIDEO

This piece is one of my earliest musical memories aged six and I was so intensely moved by the piece on first hearing it that she burst into tears. This video features a beautiful animation by Holly Seekins and is her interpretation of the story of this piece. It’s unbelievably sweet and moving. We hope you like it. Complete video on YouTube ‘Elgar’s salut d’amour’

The single will be released on Decca Classics on Friday 17 April.

The album will be released on Decca Classics on Friday 15 May.
