Currently in committee is H.R. Bill 2864 or “Countering CCP Drones Act”. This bill if passed would direct the FCC to remove the certification of drones made by DJI effectively grounding an overwhelming majority of the consumer drones sold in the United States because they were built in China. I know this may come as a surprise to some people but almost every drone, especially in the consumer space, is made in China. To single out one company because they do a better job than their competitors is ludicrous. The members of Congress who are proposing this legislation are claiming they are doing this for national security which would be fine and good if there was a problem, but there isn’t. Both the defense department and independent analysts have performed audits on DJI drones and have determined that no data is being sent back to China. In fact, one of the ‘experts’ who testified before the House Subcommittee claimed that DJI can use its drones to track the heartbeat of Americans. Umm… first off, my Apple Watch already does that and secondly if they were capable of this wouldn’t it be a great marking point for hospitals? Have the drone fly around and take the vital readings of patients instead of using a nurse?

I’m just a hobbyist who has found a new tool to use in my creative endeavors. There are many small businesses that use DJI drones as one of their primary tools. This bill will destroy those businesses. I ask all of my fellow Americans to write to their congressman and tell them to vote no to this bill or better yet give them a phone call.
