Hey everyone! It's been a while :)

I've been working on a few videos for Google that will show up on the Google Maps channel, but I wanted to upload something here as well! It's a quick video on how to geocode an address... going from "10 Front St, Toronto" to latitude + longitude.

I've been on bit of a journey myself in the past couple years which is why content hasn't been flowing so freely. 6 months, ago, after working as an Engineering Manager for about 2 years, I decided to switch back into an engineering role! I'm working as a Staff Engineer now and LOVING being back in the codes day in day out. That said, we aren't working with React (Ruby on Rails + Hotwire), so it's a bit harder to have fresh React content for you all.

What have folks been up to? Any cool projects, new jobs, new accomplishments???

I'm a full stack web developer, yet 95% of what I cover here is React. I'd like to branch out and cover some other topics related to web development as a whole. This could be databases, backends, other frontend frameworks, etc. What would you like to see covered? Don't worry, I still have some more React coming soon: framework comparison, visx.

My apologies for taking a few weeks off!! We moved recently to a new town and I've been trying to find a new rhythm.

I'm hoping my next video will compare Create React App, Gatsby, Next.js, Blitz, and Redwood... to talk about the pros and cons to each and when I'd use one over the other.

This week: MobX in 2021 - Creating a simple Blockchain.

Funny story: I spent 2 hours troubleshooting this demo today, and was almost at the point of abandoning this new MobX video because I just couldn't get state changes to re-render my components. Was thinking... wow MobX is really garbage now! Then I realized I called my function "construct" and not "constructor", suddenly everything worked haha :D MobX is still awesome!
