slot 4️⃣ Nutrient & water use efficiency crop models for grasslands hosted at ILVO by Dr. Tom De Swaef. ILVO-Plant researches plant physiology, phenotyping and genomic functions in interaction with environmental factors like nutrient or water availability, light, or temperature. Phenotyping and modelling tools are developed and used to investigate plant ecophysiological responses to microclimate in the context of plant breeding and crop husbandry.

Vertical vegetables farming & hydroponics is an open slot under the #opendoorsfellowship. The participant will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Emmy Dhooghe from Ugent.
Prof. Emmy's lab main research topics in the Horticulture group are vertical farming, hydroponics, led-light,
model-based irrigation and high technology horticulture in which plant physiology, plant quality and innovative techniques are used to result in a more sustainable or qualitative production. To join this lab you will need hard skills search as;

➡️ Familiarity with general plant physiological techniques, light measurements and plant physiological terminology. as well as monitoring plant growth and quality.
➡️ Basic knowledge of HPLC techniques.
Analyzing microbiome data.
➡️Knowledge of statistical data analysis is mandatory.

The #opendoorsfellowship is a holistic program that aims to contribute to the consolidation of mid-career researchers and avoid them leaking from the scientific pipeline. Through its unique conceptualization and implementation, the program is tailored to our participants' training needs to provide a fulfilling, nurturing and empowering learning experience.
Thanks to ‪@vlir-uos‬ We are now able to sponsor 8 researchers for 20 months in our program, for the 2023-2025.
There are Two modalities A & B (ipbo.vib-ugent.be/en/projects/open-doors-fellowshi….
under modality A there are 9 open slots.

1️⃣ Using new molecular tools for soil health (nematodes) 🔬🧬
2️⃣ Studying plant-pathogen signalling pathways 🐛🌱
3️⃣ Analysing root development under drought conditions ☀️🥀
4️⃣ Assessing the impact of mycotoxins on human health 🦠🧫
5️⃣ Exploring programmed cell death for crops' productivity 🌽
6️⃣ Adopting biotechnology methods for improved in vitro culture 🧪
7️⃣ Developing crop models for nutrient & water use efficiency 🖥 🌿
8️⃣ Researching plant volatiles as growth promoters under stress 🌾
9️⃣Vertical vegetables farming & hydroponics 🌾

About a week ago, we launched a call for the #opendoorsfellowship, we are looking for phenomenal #womeninscience who meet all of the following criteria;

Post-doc female scholars (minimum one year after defending their PhD) or in mid-career positions who experience challenges to progress in their career path due to limited access to training, infrastructure and international networks. There are no age limits.

Scholarship candidates should be national and resident in one of the VLIR- UOS scholarship countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania or Uganda); or employee of a target organization in one of these countries (candidates exceptionally can have a different nationality). Candidates from Nigeria will also be supported despite not being VLIR-UOS scholarship countries through our program.

Applicants' research fields must be plant breeding, agrobiotechnology, molecular biology and genetics, microbiology, chemical ecology, plant & soil health, livestock or aquaculture.

Applicants must have an active employment contract in a High Education institution or an (inter)national research center in any of the countries listed above for the duration of the fellowship (20 months), where they conduct research and teach.
