It's crazy to think that the TDC10 video is almost a year old. It's crazier to think that people are still watching it after all this time. It's even crazier to think that over 2,000 of you decided to subscribe to the channel. Thank you so, so much.
Honestly, I kept debating over whether I should even bother posting this. After all, my channel is still miniscule by today's standards. By now, most people would reasonably assume that, for whatever reason, I just made one fairly successful video and then abandoned YouTube. But in reality, I've been working on something the entire time. To those of you who happen to see this, I want to let you know where I've been and what you can expect from me going forward.
Shortly after the TDC10 video, I tried getting into streaming Taiko. I sunk a ton of effort into trying to make the stream better, but in the end, I realized that streaming just isn't for me. To the handful of you who tuned in back then and enjoyed watching me play: thank you so much for the support. I haven't forgotten about it. I still plan on organizing occasional streams in the future, but only when it feels right.
I stopped streaming around December, and after that, I struggled to determine what I should make next. I had a lot of small ideas, but I just couldn't figure out how to form them into a cohesive project. At some point, I did actually start working on a video. I worked on it for maybe a month, but I decided to drop it, as it wasn't turning out the way I had intended. I don't think it's perfectionism per se. I just think I have a decent sense of the type of content that would be valuable to the Western Taiko community, and that video wasn't it.
Around February, I finally decided on the right direction for the next project. It would involve some basic research, writing, editing -- a pretty standard YouTube video, all things considered. Initially, it was going to be 20-30 mins. But as I got deeper into production, it slowly grew into something much bigger. By March, I had another decision to make: do I release what I have now, or do I keep going? I chose the latter, and here I am. 6 months later. Still working on the same video.
In case you didn't know, I'm currently in grad school, which keeps me pretty busy. Nevertheless, I've tried my best to work on the video whenever I've been able to. I'm very happy with what I have so far, but it will still take some time before I'm able to finish the whole thing. I really appreciate your patience, and I'm sorry that I can't give you an actual release date yet. But I really do think it will be worth the wait.
Hi everyone :D I've made a second channel, @JayPlaysTaiko, for all my gameplay edits. My main channel (this one) will be reserved for scripted content (reviews, tutorials, video essays, etc.). Thanks for all your support 💜
