ایک سال پہلے، میں کام سے دیر سے فارغ ہوئی اور میری گاڑی خراب تھی، اس لیے مجھے پبلک ٹرانسپورٹ استعمال کرنی پڑی۔
گھر پہنچنے کے لیے مجھے دو بسیں لینی پڑتی تھیں۔ میں ایک مصروف ہائی وے پر چل رہی تھی جس پر سٹریٹ لائٹس تھیں تاکہ آخری بس پکڑ سکوں۔ ایک مردانہ آواز نے میرے نام کو پکارا، ایک مضبوط اور بے خوف آواز میں۔ (میں نے خود سے کہا کہ جو بھی مجھے اس اندھیرے میں پہچان کر میرا نام لے کر پکار رہا ہے، وہ واقعی مجھے جانتا ہوگا یا کوئی ایسا ہوگا جس سے میں اکثر بات کرتی ہوں)۔ جب میں نے پیچھے مڑ کر دیکھا، تو میری زندگی کا سب سے بڑا جھٹکا لگا۔ ایک مصروف بھیڑ بھاڑ والے راستے پر چند گز کے فاصلے پر ایک شخص کھڑا تھا جو میرے لیے مکمل اجنبی تھا۔ وہ سیدھا میری طرف دیکھ رہا تھا جیسے میرے پاس جانے کا انتظار کر رہا ہو، اور وہ ایک انچ بھی نہیں ہلا۔
چند منٹ تک اسے گھورنے کے بعد، میرے ضمیر نے مجھے وہاں نہ جانے کا کہا، اس لیے میں نے پلٹ کر دو قدم پیچھے ہٹائے۔ اس نے پھر پوچھا، "کیا تم مجھ سے ڈر رہی ہو؟" میں نے اس کی طرف مڑ کر دیکھا، لیکن میری حیرت کی بات یہ تھی کہ وہ پلک جھپکتے ہی بغیر کسی نشان کے غائب ہو گیا۔
آج تک، میں سوچتی رہتی ہوں کہ اس رات کیا ہوا تھا، وہ آدمی کون تھا، اور اس نے میرا نام کیوں پکارا۔ میں کراچی میں رہتی ہوں اور کام کے دائرے کے باہر میرے زیادہ دوست نہیں ہیں کیونکہ یہ شہر میرا آبائی شہر نہیں ہے۔
