Often times, the reason these thoughts are intrusive is because there's some truth to them.
When working with clients, I always lead with evidence-based practice to help alleviate intrusive thoughts. Methods from cognative behavioral therapy (CBT), such as fact-checking and through-stopping, can help.
What I've found to be the most helpful in disarming my intrusive thoughts has been honest repentance. Spending time with God every morning, admitting those thoughts to him, and asking for forgiveness has been very beneficial for my mental health.
I am no longer held hostage by my sins and temptations.
