The bad news is that there won't be a new Frightbox YouTube video this week. I absolutely hate not being able to post new content, but the reality is that the construction on the studio has (once again) taken over my entire life. It's been brutal over the last few weeks...
The good news is that we're now only WEEKS away from having this project done. Most of the electrical is done, and now we're just doing the finishing (acoustic panels, wall trim, wood staining, door install).
This has been an insane 2-year-long process, and I absolutely cannot wait to get back to work and put out all of the upcoming content that I have planned.

5 YEARS of the Frightbox Mix Crypt… absolutely insane.
What started as a little Facebook group in 2021 has grown into an actual community where real progress is being made… mixes are improving, songs are getting finished, and some members are even starting to work with clients of their own.
I couldn’t be happier.
And honestly, it’s wild to think about how many gimmicky things have come and gone in the music production world over the last 5 years.
Magic plugins.
AI tools.
One-click mastering.
“Secret” mix tricks.
Endless hype around the next thing that’s supposed to fix everything.
But after 5 years of working with this awesome community, I’m more convinced than ever that the real stuff ALWAYS wins:
Better understanding of EQ and compression...
Learning how to adjust fader level so the mix actually balances before you start nuking it with plugins...
Practicing on raw, real-world multitracks that don’t already sound “finished.”
And most importantly…
Getting real-world feedback from people who can point out what you’re not hearing yet.
That’s the stuff that never goes out of style.
Now that my new studio build is wrapping up, I’m excited to bring this next era of the Crypt to life...
Starting with the next workshop:
​"Full Pro Mix Breakdown Using ONLY Stock Plugins​"
This is going down inside the Mix Crypt on Thursday, July 23rd at 7PM.
And for this one, I’m doing the entire thing inside REAPER.
Partly to prove that you can get legit, polished results with affordable tools…
And partly because I’m a Pro Tools user, so apparently I enjoy making my life difficult for educational purposes.
I’ll be breaking down a full mix using only stock plugins.
No fancy third-party tools and no expensive stuff hiding behind the curtain.
Just real mixing decisions.
Even better, I’m making the entire REAPER session available for download inside the Crypt, including the multitracks, for a short window around the training.
You’ll be able to grab it 24 hours before the workshop, the day of the workshop, and 24 hours after.
So you can follow along, dig through the session, reverse-engineer the moves, and see exactly how the mix was built.
This is exclusively happening inside the Mix Crypt and nowhere else.
So if you want in, now is a pretty killer time to join the party.
I don't care what anyone says..the oversized Mesa 4x12 is the greatest cab of all time, and it's the only cab you'll EVER need (literally).
It sounds great for any genre of music that involves distorted guitars:
Indie Rock... Dad Rock... Pop-Punk... Brutal Death Metal...
ANYTHING.
As a matter of fact, my 4x12 (the one in the photo) is still the best-sounding cab I've ever recorded in my entire life, and I can't wait to use it in my new amp room.
I've captured impulse responses of it multiple times, and it's the only IR I ever use when using amp sims. I don't waste my time with anything else.

Believe it or not, the best mixes of my career were created in this crappy little room.
Absolutely no acoustic treatment. A cheap 2-channel USB interface. IK Multimeida Micro Monitors....and that's it.
Far from an ideal listening environment.
That said, a small part of me will miss this room when I move into my new studio next month.
The question is....how did I make such a "crappy" setup work?
New video coming Thursday where I'll show you exactly how I did it and how you can do the same, regardless of your space and gear limitations.
