This short film, steeped in unmistakable Nordic black humor, explores the paradoxes of the human soul through the slow unravelling of a romantic relationship. Reinsve shines as Silje, a young woman determined to leave her boyfriend—until his recent suicide attempt forces her to reconsider, torn between self-preservation and the fear of being heartless.
Multi-award-winning and selected for the Student Academy Awards, this gem is not to be missed. Only available for our channel memberships 💎

🐮CAPTIVES (by Noémie Polycarpe, Mélodi Baskal, Rose Frappa-Denis, Hugo Barbier, Katia Doze, Lisa Giacobbi, Lisa Sabat): This film criticizes intensive livestock farming through the eyes of the animals. In a heavy and suggestive atmosphere, a cow and her calf, separated, struggle to find each other, leaving the viewer deeply uncomfortable in front of a silent but accusing judgment. The first few minutes of the film give us a glimpse into the lives of these cows on a mega-farm, focusing on the daily violence they endure, before taking us much further into their emotions and into the mega-farm itself.
“Captives”, plunges us completely into the violent reality of intensive livestock farming. The 3D animation gives the scenes a thickness of great realism, thus giving the message a far more striking dimension.
💧LA FILLE DU LAC (by Louise Bacou, Mathieu Leguay, Ludivine Miermont, Elisa Martin, Marion Fuchs, Achille Houplain, Olessia Fedko, Luna Schwertz):
WWII, a house by the lake. A little girl lives here, all alone. Bombs in the echo of the dark shake the old house. In the morning the little girl discovers her parent’s photograph has fallen. She sits there, shocked by the reminder of her loss. The following night is quieter than usual, a wooden boat is brought to her by the lake. Inside it, a girl remains - she is asleep. This presence will help the little girl grow and move on with her grief, carrying old memories with her.
“The Girl of the Lake,” on the other hand, immerses us like a tale, in its fantastical tableaux with colors oscillating between cold and warm, into the haunted daily life of a young orphan, prisoner of her memories and grief in the aftermath of the Second World War.

🎬 Release of the weekend: Three Weeks In December - by Laura Gonçalves
📷 🍃 Memory and family recollection lie at the heart of Laura Gonçalves’ cinema. Three Weeks in December unfolds like a sketchbook, capturing a Christmas return to her family home in a small Portuguese village. The film becomes both an act of remembrance and a reflection on a country shaken by economic crisis, an exploration of the roots, of what we hold on to, and what we inevitably leave behind.
Driven by a raw sense of presence, it gathers voices and everyday fragments that oscillate between nostalgia and the ordinary. This award-winning animated documentary, celebrated across numerous festivals, offers an intimate and compelling first window into Gonçalves’ cinematic world.
📝Synopsis: It is a personal story that enhances the family bonds, using my sketchbook drawings as a reference and my family as the subject, this film follows a diaristic format, showing several situations and events that are part of my culture and routine in my home town Belmonte, during Christmas time.

🎬 Release of the week: The Livestock at the Manger - by Julie Vanlerberghe & Breyten Van Der Donck
🎄🥂The traditional family Christmas dinner has long offered cinema a fertile stage , a gathering as eagerly awaited as it is dreaded, where unresolved tensions simmer beneath tinsel and polite smiles, and where gestures of goodwill often mask hypocrisy or lingering resentments. The Livestock at the Manger, by Belgian duo Julie Vanlerberghe and Breyten Van Der Donck, immerses us in such a festive battleground. Through tight, almost suffocating close-ups, the film pulls us into a 1990s Christmas meal where the very first notes of the voiceover hint at the storm brewing within this quietly dysfunctional family.
The film’s warm, vintage-tinged palette and its carefully choreographed characters evoke, fleetingly, the whimsical world of Wes Anderson. Yet here, the choreography slips, a delicate ballet of missteps and dissonant notes in which each guest gradually reveals their least flattering self. The fragile illusion of celebration splinters, and what should have been a moment of shared joy fractures into a thousand glittering shards.
Don't miss this chaotic family Christmas Eve!
📝Synopsis: Christmas Eve, sometime in the 1990s. For the first time, the family celebration is no longer hosted by Aunt Greet, but at Julie's home where her mum pulls out all the stops to make the party a success and to impress the rest of the family.

❄️ WINTER TALES ❄️
🎬✨ This week, two exclusives short films to get into the frosty December! Don’t miss these premium shorts by subscribing to our channel memberships for 4,99€/month!
⛸️HOOFS ON SKATES (by Ignas Meilūnas): In a winter wonderland two friends are having a blast ice-skating on a frozen lake when suddenly a strange and unfamiliar world cracks open underneath them. Now they must learn how to deal with the other kind, not letting the fear and preconceptions rule.
Lithuanian animated cinema, with a history dating back one hundred years, is marked by its surreal and whimsical side, which Ignas Meilūnas's “Hoofs on Skates” (whose previous stop-motion films can be found on the channel) tackles with the same blend of pure joy, absurdity, and inventiveness. The stop-motion animation is superbly done, with every frame feeling alive, bringing to life this little animal world, where accepting others and overcoming our fears of the unknown are key themes. Staying at a child's eye level, the animation never loses its footing, conveying this message with humor and warmth in winter scenery.
♟️A STORY ABOUT A MONKEY, A BEAR AND A CATERPILLAR (by Dashka Dementeva, Anastasia Evnovitš, Rebeka Kruus): Strange Company - a monkey, a bear, and a centipede are intensely engaged in playing a board game. However, there is more at stake than just game pieces.
Also set in this same winter wonderland, this stop-motion from Estonia immerses us in a highly intense board game with no turning back. Brilliantly directed by the trio of filmmakers, this board game takes on an organic and dark dimension thanks to the rich textures of the puppets and the sound design, which gives the game an even more hypnotic and terrifying atmosphere in this wooden barn decorated with masks that seem to hold the souls of past players. Like a fragment of forgotten folklore, steeped in supernatural peril, this animation pulls us into a darkened corner of the world, where every shadow seems alive.

🎬 Pick of the weekend: Surprise - by Paulo Patrício
🌸Speaking about illness, especially the kind that strikes a child, snatches them out of innocence, and hurls them into the adult world with no path back, is always a delicate challenge in cinema: too much pathos, or the failure to truly see from a child’s height. And yet, with Supresa, Paulo Patrício offers us a work that is intimate and heartrending, yet remarkably restrained.
The film’s power lies in its form: childlike, tender illustrations intertwined with the raw audio of a conversation between a mother and her three-year-old daughter, who is recovering from kidney cancer. Together, they speak with disarming honesty about the disease: their fears, their battles, and the victories they cling to. Patrício gives space to this little girl: to her doubts, her tremors, her fierce courage. The organic animation breathes life into her journey, revealing the transformations in her body and spirit. All of it carried by the lush, minimalist music of Japanese saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu.
Do not miss this deeply human, profoundly moving piece, already celebrated at numerous festivals!
📝Synopsis: A short experimental/documental animation made using a recorded conversation between a mother, Joana, and her 3 years old daughter, Alice, who is recovering from kidney cancer. They both talk – in a very open and frank way – about the illness, their present circumstances, struggles and conquers.

🏍️SAIGON KISS (by Hồng Anh Nguyễn): Mơ roams through the rush hour traffic to avoid an unwanted phone call. When she meets Vicky by the side of the street with her broken motorbike, a visceral chance encounter unfolds between the two young queer women on the loud streets of Saigon.
Rush hour in the streets of Saigon, the hustle and bustle of the city, the swarm of strangers, overwhelm the senses. And yet, chance brings about a chance encounter between two women on motorbikes: decide to break the well-trodden path of everyday life, or continue along this same route?
This is precisely the story of Mơ & Vicky's encounter that ‘Saigon Kiss’ tells, in a ballet of feelings and excitement of the first meeting. The authenticity and naturalism of the film, combined with the chemistry between the two actresses, makes this queer love story feel like a rapture, a moment suspended in time so real that it touches us even more with its freshness.
🧜♀️GIGI (by Cynthia Calvi): From the tormented little mermaid to the fulfilled woman she is today, Gigi tells us about her gender transition with humor and sensitivity.
A sensitive and humorous portrait, ‘Gigi’ is the true story of a little mermaid who blossomed into a fulfilled woman. The filmmaker Cynthia Calvi captures the gender transition through Gigi's personal experience, amid the turmoil of puberty and the search for self. The animation work, with its visual metaphors, gives Gigi's monologue a sensitivity and empathy that shines through throughout the film. And its strong festival run can only underline the very human aspect of this short film.

Tribute to Udo Kier
🕯️🎬The magnetic German dandy has just left us. Its hypnotic gaze has been seen in the works of some of the greatest filmmakers (Fassbinder, Lars Von Trier, Gus Van Sant, Kleber Mendonça Filho) as well as in underground and B movies (Paul Morrissey), making Frankenstein and Dracula even more disturbing and ambiguous.
On KIS KIS, you can also see him in a dreamlike short film, where he plays an occult doctor in Stefanie Schneider's “Heather's Dream.” Constructed like a photo-novel with a succession of still Polaroid images, the short film unfolds a mysterious and phantasmic narrative where the boundary between dreams and reality is blurred. A short film definitely for Lynch lovers, which echoes with Ugo Kier's filmography!

🩰 “Within” A film about the poetry of feelings, the flood of dark thoughts alienating the body, immobilizing the dancer's acrobatics, holding her back in a lethargy that only by facing her own inner demons can the dancer rediscover her taste for rhythm, from adagio to allegro. Natália Azevedo Andrade and her vague and mephotic lines draw us into her character's inner world, where the blurring of feelings, that je ne sais quoi that escapes reason, is transcribed with sensitivity, reflecting the fear, guilt, and shame that the dancer experiences.
🎬This very delicate animation has had a very successful run at festivals and is not to be missed!
📝Synopsis: A dancer loses her rhythm. An expedition through the interior of guilt, shame and fear.

🏊 BEBEN (by Rudolf Fitzgerald Leonard): During water therapy for his chronic spasms, Leon is involved in an incident that gradually disrupts all aspects of his life.
Selected at the Cannes Film Festival, “BEBEN” is a dive into the mind of a paralyzed man, suffocating in his daily life, which takes a hellish turn when he becomes the subject of bullying on social media following an incident that was filmed. Rudolf Fitzgerald Leonard's oppressive and sensitive direction films the social exclusion of Léon, powerfully portrayed by Luis Brandt, resulting in a film that is as moving as it is mysterious. It is through the subjectivity of the taciturn Léon that the film shows us the excesses of social media on human relationships and on one's own sense of self. A film of great restraint, but incredibly human.
🌊PENTHOUSE (by Line Klungseth Johansen & Vegard Dahle): The world is uninhabitable and flooded, and everyone has fled. Except for John and his concerned boyfriend Benjamin. When Benjamin finds a radio and wants to flee, John’s utopian dream of creating a self-sustained world starts falling apart. John embarks on a destructive mission to force them to stay together.
The rising waters in an apocalyptic world serve as a metaphor for a couple on the brink of breaking up: Benjamin and John, who are trying to survive in their flooded apartment building. John's possessive nature takes a turn as aggressively as the unpredictable forces threatening them. Tense and claustrophobic, this climate fable with its destructive ending questions both a dying relationship and our own behaviors against climate change.
