The release from prison and the desire to change one's life, to make a firm decision to stay on the straight and narrow, is a narrative thread that has fueled cinema since its debut, as seen in De Palma's Carlito's Way and Fritz Lang'sYou Only Live Once, both of which feature reformed criminals.

🏍️💨Jean-François Leblanc's “The Prince of Val-Bé” also follows a reformed criminal, a former ATV champion who returns to his hometown in the province of Quebec. But he quickly encounters the resentment of society, for whom he remains a convicted criminal. Far from the twilight and tragic tones of De Palma and Gray, the film takes on a social dimension similar to that of the Dardannes brothers, as fiction seems to merge with reality, filmed as if it were a documentary.

Through his niece, Martin's inner conflict and vulnerability are revealed, with only ATV racing bringing him back to his former self and glory as the Prince of Val-Bé.

📝 Synopsis: Ex-ATV champion, Martin spent the last six years in prison. Back in his hometown, he founds out that he is no longer welcome in Val-Bélair. His sister and his niece are gonna help him proving to everybody that the Prince is not dead.

An animation created by students at EMCA in Angoulême, it was selected for some of the most prestigious festivals in the world. In fact, this stop-motion animation, with its impressive precision, is a real gem. Every detail is important in this three-minute animation, which explores the human condition in the near future. It's a kind of “Soylent Green” shot like a lo-fi documentary, but with an absurd touch that hits you like a punch in the face.

🤯 "Duku Spacemarines" (by La Mécanique du Plastique): This is the story of a Chinese hacking the American capitalist system, a Czech fight, chickens, doomsday.

Equally absurd, the animation by the collective La Mécanique du Plastique, “Duku Spacemarines,” is a condensed version of craziness in which an over-energized voiceover improvises a scenario parodying Hollywood action films by Spielberg and Nolan, all punctuated by a range of different animations, from pixel to 3D.
