(d) - Upper Circuit
The upper circuit in Indian stock markets is a regulatory measure to curb excessive volatility in individual stocks. When a stock hits its upper circuit, trading halts (freezes or stops), preventing further price increases in a single session. This mechanism protects investors from sudden price swings and maintains market stability which is NOT in case of Crypto therefore we say Crypto is NOT safe!!

Percentage Limits 📈
Upper circuit limits are predefined percentages dictating how much a stock's price can rise in a day. These limits vary based on the stock's category and volatility, commonly set at 2%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and even 40%

Time Frames and Resumption of Trading ⏳
1. Initial Halt - Trading halts for 15 minutes to an hour when a stock hits its upper circuit
2. End-of-Day - If the upper circuit is hit near the end of the session, trading may remain halted until the next day

And vice versa to upper circuit is lower circuit

Key Highlights of Budget 2024

🇮🇳 Economy

- Fiscal Deficit for FY25 projected at 4.9% of GDP versus 5.1% projected during the Interim Budget. Target is to bring it to below 4.5% next year
- Capex for FY25 at Rs 11.11 lakh crore or 3.4% of GDP

💸 Capital Gains

- Listed financial assets held for more than a year will be classified as long-term, while unlisted financial assets, held for more than two years, will be classified as long-term assets
- Long term capital gain (LTCG) tax revised to 12.5% from 10% on financial and non-financial assets. There will be no indexation benefit — this applies to real estate/property as well
- Limit of long-term cap tax gains exemption will be hiked to Rs 1.25 lakh from Rs 1 lakh
- Short-term gains on certain financial assets will attract a tax rate of 20% instead of 15%
- Unlisted bonds, debentures, debt mutual funds, and market-linked debentures are to be taxed at a slab rate irrespective of holding period
- Income from share buyback to be taxed in the hands of recipients. This was exempt until now
- Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on F&O trades INCREASED to 0.02% and 0.1% respectively

🙎🏽 Individuals

- No changes to the Old Tax Regime
- New Income Tax regime gets an increase in standard deduction from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000
- Tax slabs tweaked for New Tax Regime

Rs 0-3 lakh - Nil
Rs 3-7 lakh - 5% (Earlier Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh)
Rs 7-10 lakh - 10%
Rs 10-12 lakh - 15%
Rs 15 lakh and above - 30%

- NPS contribution limit by the employer increased from 10% to 14%
- NPS-Vatsalya, a plan for contribution by parents and guardians for minors, to be launched
- First-time employees in formal sectors will receive one month's wage up to Rs 15,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer. This will be based on enrolment in EPFO
- Income tax assessment cannot be reopened beyond three years from the end of the assessment year except in cases where the escaped income is Rs 50 lakh or more

🏢 Corporate

- Angel Tax to be abolished in a boost to the startup ecosystem
- Mudra loans, focused on credit to MSME, get a limit increase from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh
- Corporate tax rate on foreign companies has been reduced from 40% to 35%
- TDS rate on e-commerce operators to be reduced to 0.1 % from 1%

📕 Others

- Customs duty on gold and silver will be reduced to 6%
- Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on mobile phones, mobile PCDA (Printed Circuit Design Assembly), and mobile chargers reduced to 15%
- States charging high stamp duty will be encouraged to moderate their rates for all. Further reductions in duties for properties purchased by women will also be considered
