Real-world investigations into credit cards, travel rewards, banking, and financial products.

I spend my own money, open the accounts, file the claims, call the companies, book the hotels, visit airport lounges, and test the benefits to show you what actually happens.

Expect deep dives into credit cards, points and miles, luxury travel, hotels, airport lounges, insurance benefits, banking, fintech, mortgages, investing platforms, and business finance.

My goal is simple: uncover the fine print, test the promises, and give you the evidence before you spend your own money.

🚨 *Edit* They Extended the Sale (8/23) for 30% off Thrifty Traveler Premium ✈️

👉 Get 30% off here:
link.calbyng.com/ThriftyTraveler

I've been getting some really good Thrifty Traveler alerts lately, and what I like most is that I'm not sitting there for hours searching flights, trying different cities and dates. Some of the best ones are places or redemptions I wouldn't have even thought to look for myself.

Just in the last week, I've seen alerts for:

✈️ Europe — 42,000 AA miles round-trip
💺 South America — from 34K points each way
🇯🇵 Tokyo & Seoul — from 52K points round-trip

I didn't search for any of these. They just showed up in my inbox.

That's really why I like it. Instead of picking where you want to go and then hunting for a deal, Thrifty Traveler finds the deal first and shows you where your points and miles can actually take you.

🔥 Their 30% off sale ends TONIGHT:
→ Premium: $90.99 for the first year
→ Premium Plus: $132.99 for the first year

One good alert could easily save you more than the cost of the whole year.

Baby Calby has officially made it into the world! 🌎👶🍼

It’s only been a few days, and I already have a whole new level of respect for parents. I’m running on very little sleep, can barely walk straight, and somehow forgetting credit card facts I’ve known a hundred times over 😂

Most importantly, she’s happy, healthy, and very, very hungry.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in and supported us through this amazing life event. ❤️

In the meantime, drop your best credit card tip in the comments, my brain could use the refresher 😂

Happy July 4th 🇺🇸

America turns 250 today, which is pretty wild to think about. It hasn’t been that long in the grand scheme of history, but the American experiment has definitely been interesting to say the least.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy the day with family, food, fireworks, and hopefully zero surprises 🎆🍔

Also, if you’re traveling today, I hope your airport lounge is somehow not packed. But let’s be honest, it probably is.

And remember, some lounges may have special 4th of July treats today, so keep an eye out 👀

📦 Prime Day is Almost Here That Means and Elevated Offers 👀

Right now, Prime members can get a $200 Amazon Gift Card instantly upon approval. No spending requirement needed!

As always, if you shop Amazon regularly and don’t already have the Prime Visa, this might be one of the better times to pick it up ahead of Prime Day.

A few quick highlights:

✅ $200 Amazon Gift Card upon approval
✅ No annual fee
✅ 5% back at Amazon, Whole Foods, Audible, and Chase Travel with Prime
✅ 2% back at gas stations, restaurants, and local transit/commuting
✅ 1% back everywhere else

Amazon is also advertising a Prime Day perk where Prime cardmembers can earn up to 7% back on eligible Amazon purchases June 23–26 when choosing No Rush Delivery.

Amazon Prime Visa link: link.calbyng.com/AmazonPrimeCard

There are also elevated offers on the Chase Ink Business Cash and Chase Ink Business Unlimited.

Both cards are currently offering:

✅ $1,000 / 100,000 points after $8,000 spend in 4 months
✅ No annual fee
✅ A good way to build up a large amount of Chase points

Just remember: the Chase to Hyatt transfer math starts changing for some cardholders beginning June 15, so make sure you know which Ultimate Rewards card you’re pairing these points with. Mostly just the Sapphire Reserve cards are keeping the 1:1 transfer.

🚨 Chase Refreshed the Sapphire Preferred and I Don’t Hate it 🤔

The annual fee is staying at $95 but Chase is adding:

✅ 3x on gas + EV charging
✅ 3x on vacation rentals like Airbnb & Vrbo
✅ $100 Chase Travel hotel credit, up from $50
✅ Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS credit up to $120
✅ 1 year of Apple TV
✅ Emergency evacuation + transportation coverage up to $100K

So on paper, the Sapphire Preferred got better.

But there are two big catches:

❌ The 10% anniversary bonus is going away for new applicants
❌ Hyatt transfers are getting nerfed from 1:1 to 4:3 for Sapphire Preferred cardholders

That Hyatt change is the big one. Hyatt has been one of the best reasons to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points and now Chase is basically saying, “if you want the best Hyatt transfer ratio you need the Sapphire Reserve” The Ink Business Preferred isn’t even safe from this refresh 😭

My honest take? Chase is making a major push to get people into the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

The Preferred is still a good $95 card, but Chase is clearly creating more separation between the Preferred and Reserve. And with the Reserve keeping 1:1 Hyatt transfers, this feels very intentional.

Also, timing matters ⏰

The Chase Sapphire Reserve all time high 150,000 point welcome bonus is ending soon on June 15 at 9 a.m. EDT.

That’s 150,000 Chase points after $6,000 in spend in 3 months and this is the biggest offer we’ve ever seen on the card.

If you’ve been considering the Reserve, I would seriously look at it before this offer disappears.

One more thought, this is speculation, not official advice:

If you do not already have the Sapphire Preferred, I’d personally consider waiting until after the refresh (June 15th). We’ve seen refreshes come with bigger welcome offers before, and I wouldn’t be shocked if Chase eventually rolls out a stronger Preferred bonus.

Also, since the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve are now treated as separate cards for welcome bonus eligibility, I think getting the Reserve bonus now may not block you from a future Preferred bonus assuming you’ve never received the Preferred bonus before (hopefully they don’t change it 🤞)

But again, that part is just me thinking out loud. Not confirmed. Don’t make a move purely based on that speculation.

My bottom line:

The Sapphire Preferred got some nice upgrades, but the Hyatt nerf makes the Reserve look a lot more important for anyone who cares about Chase points.

What are you doing? Are you going to grab the Reserve before the deadline, waiting for a bigger Preferred offer, or skipping both? 👀

Some Big Personal News, Baby Calby is on the Way! 👶

Becoming a dad has been wild to even type out, even now it still doesn't feel real. What's the first card you recommend adding this baby to? Amex Platinum out the gate? 😂

Thank you all for being part of this channel through every credit card unboxing, timeshare ambush, and 90-minute Bilt application livestream. You're a real reason I get to do this; and now my kid gets to grow up with that.

Two ways to be part of it if you want:

🎲 Place your bets. I set up a prediction pool: gender, birth date, weight, and length guesses. Free to play, just for fun (no money involved):

🎁 If you want to spoil this kid (or just see what's on the list and wouldn't mind recommending suggestions to add), here's the registry (any advice is appreciated):

I know I've been less active in the comments, but I hope to get to them soon! Enjoy the update video to the Morgan Stanley Amex Platinum video, it's an interesting one!
