Youtube says lots of new folks are coming through to watch the new-to-you shorts and old sketches and hundreds are sharing them. Thanks folks! Welcome to INTERNET HISTORY. (Seriously - the robots have forgotten us so every like / comment / share is a big big deal.)

If you're new to the channel, I'm James - coauthor and Executive Producer of SMBC Theater - and your resident space demon from beyond time.

In 2009 I got my old high school friends (including SMBC's Zachary and Kelly Weinersmith, Angel Askins, and Chason Chaffin) and my playwriting grad school friends (JP Nickel, Jon Brence, Marque Franklin Williams) and some new LA friends (Jason Axinn, Felicity Doyle, Betsy Drake Studstill) and started a sketch show called SMBC Theater to compliment Zach's webcomic smbc-comics.com - which you should be reading if you love great comics. He publishes books too! And JP and Marque are both doing great writing for television while Jon is doing awesome stuff with creators online.

We also made a cooking show for folks that are struggling financially called "Hand To Mouth" - it's still somewhere here on the channel and some folks still swap recipes on our discord. Feel free to come say hi!

We changed the name of the channel to "thetheater" after SMBC Theater ended back in 2013 in case I wanted to make anything more without Zach having to answer for whatever crazy thing I did. Most of the folks in these sketches have gone on to do awesome things - be sure to look them up to see what they're doing today!



Not sure what I'm going to do here 13 years later but I'm getting an itch. Subscribe if you want to see if I do something weird. No firm plans but if history has taught me anything it's that I'm unpredictable.

SUPERPALS. You have probably heard of the fires that destroyed so many homes and lives in LA. Our own JP Nickel lost his home last week.

Luckily, he and Jenny got out safe, but their friends at Warehouse 13 have started a Go Fund Me to help them start to rebuild. If JP and Jenny made you giggle back in the day, I know they'd appreciate the help even if they'd feel weird about asking.
