A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 43
( Sawyer's POV )
Sawyer was still trying to process the end of his training session with his father as he changed into the clothes given to him for the Arena.
Training had gone as it usually did, brutal and violent. But when Sawyer and his father had stopped because they had been notified that Sawyer was going to be taken to his ascension tube shortly, something weird happened.
Sawyer had stood alert and at attention as his father gave him a once over look. Mathias Chance had taken longer to look Sawyer over than he normally would, he had looked Sawyer in the eye and held his gaze for a moment, steel grey meeting deep brown. Sawyer had been startled as he could have sworn that there was a flicker of something in his father's eyes.
Regret.
" Remember your training. This is what you've been prepared for your whole life. Remember what you've been taught and I'll see you on the other side.''
Those were the last words that Mathias Chance had told Sawyer before he left. So now Sawyer sat getting ready to face the Arena while trying to figure out what he had done wrong. Because Sawyer couldn't possibly understand why his father had looked at him with regret. Had Sawyer somehow not lived up to the expectations that he'd been groomed to achieve? Did his father regret all the years he had put into training his son?
Sawyer tightened the arm guards on his wrists. The outfits for the Arena had been designed for battle and survival in mind. Studying the outfit Sawyer was able to take a few guesses as to what the Arena was going to look like, and danger was the name of the game. If Sawyer had to guess the Arena was going to be just as dangerous if not more so, than the other Tributes. What did excite Sawyer was the fact that his Arena outfit was designed to hold as many weapons as possible. A strong belt insured that a sword would stay secure at his side, there were loops for axes to hang from, pockets that would hold daggers and knives lined Sawyer's chest and sides. If he could get his hands on the weapons, he could carry them with ease.
The outfit itself was black with a strip of orange and the number 2 on Sawyer's left arm. Sawyer had to assume that each District had a different color strip, something to help the viewers in the Capital tell them all apart. What Sawyer found interesting was the fact that his chest was well protected by some kind of armor. Clearly Thorn wanted the Tributes to live long enough to make things interesting, and apply more effort in harming each other to entertain.
Sawyer looked up when he heard someone clear their throat. Looking up Sawyer saw that Theseus was leaning on the doorframe looking Sawyer over in an almost sorrowful way. Standing up the bear of a man walked over to Sawyer and helped to do a once over on Sawyer's armored pieces.
" I just came from talking with Malikia. He wanted me to inform you that the plan has been relaid and everyone is on board. He said to remind you to breathe and to relax. You made a good plan and he will see you after the Bloodbath."
Sawyer nodded.
" Be honest with me, how is he doing?"
Theseus sighed.
" He's nervous. But Malikia is strong and I have full faith that everything will be fine once you two join up in the Arena."
Sawyer nodded. He knew he had to follow with the plan, he had made it, but as soon as he could he had to make sure that Malikia was at his side. Sawyer would breathe a lot easier knowing his friend was safe.
One of the assistant Gamekeepers poked their head through the door.
" Time to go."
Sawyer looked at Theseus. The older man placed a heavy hand on Sawyer's shoulder.
" I'll go with you as far as I can Little Wolf."
Sawyer couldn't help but look around as he made his way down the halls with Theseus. It didn't matter how hard he looked though, his father wasn't there. He wasn't coming. Sawyer didn't know why his chest tightened in a painful way and he felt just a bit heavier. Had he really expected his father to send him off?
Theseus seemed to realize that Sawyer was looking for his father because he placed an arm around Sawyer' shoulders as he spoke.
" I think the reality that he might lose you is finally hitting your father today. He's spent a long time telling himself that he was preparing you for your destiny, and I'm not sitting here saying that he was right in how he went about what he did. But Sawyer, your father does care about you. You're the last bit of Ruelle that he has left."
Sawyer was surprised to hear his mother's name. He was even more surprised to hear that his father may even regret what had happened in the past. Surprise turned into anger though.
" My father doesn't get to have regret now. He chose how he raised me, he chose to make me what I am today. He doesn't get to feel sorry for how everything turned out, not after EIGHTEEN YEARS. I don't want his sympathy, I want his confidence. Confidence that he trained me and gave me the skills that I need to survive. That no matter what hell I face I can get back up and push through, because that's what I've done for eighteen years."
The pain that seeped through Sawyer's voice was raw and it was honest. He was the man that he was today because of his past, and he wouldn't change that. There wasn't a world that Sawyer could imagine where he got to live a normal childhood and become something that wasn't what most people feared to become. He needed that to be ok.
When they got to the room that held the ascension tube, Sawyer turned to face Theseus. The man had tears welling in his eyes and his voice was even thicker when he spoke.
" Listen to me very closely Little Wolf. You will be faced with hard decisions in that Arena. You will face the darkest parts of you and be expected to keep going. You have other people who are looking to you for leadership and protection."
Theseus gripped Sawyer's shoulders and stared him in the eyes.
" You're going to lose some of them. You can't save everyone no matter how hard you try, no matter what you do, no matter what you personally sacrifice. You need to face that and move past it as fast as you can if you're going to survive. You have more strength than ten grown men could hope to achieve in a lifetime, use that to help carry you through this."
Sawyer stared at his Mentor. This man had been in his life for a long time and he truly cared what happened to him. Sawyer wasn't prepared for the emotions that swelled in his chest and made his throat tighten. The man in front of him had been more of a father than his own had ever been. Before Sawyer could fully understand what was happening he was wrapped in Theseus's strong arms clinging to the older man like a lifeline.
A thousand different emotions ran through Sawyer's mind as he was held like a small child. There was the side of him that was excited to finally have reached the part that he had been preparing for his entire life. But there was also a side, a side Sawyer had never allowed himself to acknowledge before, that was terrified of what was coming.
Sawyer held onto Theseus as long as he could, but time wasn't on his side. Looking into Theseus's face Sawyer pulled himself together and stood tall. Theseus gave Sawyer a small nod.
" Don't ever let them make you forget who you are. You aren't a pawn in their Game, you're your own person. Don't ever forget who you are Little Wolf."
Sawyer entered his ascension tube and replayed Theseus's words over in his mind as the doors slid closed. Remember who he was. That was great advice and was something that should have filled Sawyer with some kind of strength, but the question kept swirling in his mind.
Who was he outside of the Hunger Games?

A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 42
( Lexxia's POV )
Lexxia looked up from her book at the sound of her door opening. Roxim poked his head in and smiled.
" Can I come in?"
Lexxia closed her book and moved over on her bed. Roxim sat next to her, a small look of surprise on his face.
" You found your necklace!"
Lexxia's hand went to the ruby and she smiled.
" Actually Sawyer did, he had Theseus Blackwell help fix it."
Roxim nudged Lexxia's shoulder with his own.
" I'm glad you got it back."
A playful look passed over Roxim's face.
" Want to do something with me?"
Lexxia grinned.
" When do we start?"
Lexxia and her brother silently made their way to the elevator doors, Nyx spotted them on their way out and simply smiled at them returning to whatever project she was working on. Lexxia had grown quite fond of the older woman who was always there with a kind word if she needed it.
Once in the elevator Roxim hit the button for the top floor and Lexxia gave her brother a weird look. Roxim just laughed and grabbed Lexxia's hand once the elevator stopped, leading her to a door.
The cool air hit Lexxia's face as she followed Roxim out onto a balcony. Her brother pointed to a series of ladders that were along the side of the Tribute Center leading up to the roof. Both Lexxia and her brother made their way up and Lexxia realized just how high they were. The view once at the top took her breath away.
Below them the entire Capital was lit up and glowing. It was almost like being back in 5 when Roxim and Lexxia would sneak off with Mila and watch the city from as high up as they could get. The noise from the streets and people below were muffled from this high up, but Lexxia could still feel the magnetic energy of the city.
Lexxia closed her eyes and just breathed in the night air letting her lungs fill with air that hadn't been recirculated through a building for days. It was freeing and a bit exhilarating. Letting out a laugh Lexxia leaned on the rail and yelled into the night air.
Roxim laughed right along with her and joined her little yelling session. Both of them letting every pent up feeling and unfair circumstance be shouted out into the night air, their voices mixing with the other sounds of the city that never slept. Eventually Lexxia and Roxim sat down and just watched the city below, Lexxia's head resting on her bother's shoulder.
" I needed this."
Roxim sighed.
" Yeah, me too."
Lexxia looked up at her brother.
" So how did you find this place?"
Roxim shrugged.
" You've spent your evenings with Sawyer in the Training Room, I spent some of my time up here with Malikai. We've gotten to know each other pretty well and I think we really made the right choice with our alliance."
Lexxia felt a bit guilty. She hadn't even thought about how she had just left Roxim alone whenever she went to go train with Sawyer. Roxim seemed to read her mind.
" Don't feel bad Lex. I've spent my time making a great new friend and I've also had the opportunity to work closely with Nyx. We both prepared for the Arena in our own way."
Lexxia swallowed hard.
" Do you think that Mila will be watching?"
Roxim winced.
" I hope not. She's fourteen, she doesn't need to see this."
Lexxia felt a knot forming in her stomach. As much as she wished that her little sister would be spared watching her siblings fight in the Arena, Lexxia knew that wouldn't be the case. Lexxia leaned a little heavier on her brother's shoulder.
" One of us has to make it back to her."
Roxim kissed Lexxia's temple holding her close.
" One of us will."
Lexxia felt the sting of tears as the knowledge that not both her and Roxim were going to make it out together hit hard. She didn't want to think about that, she couldn't lose another sibling. Lexxia honestly didn't think she would be able to survive that happening again.
Roxim squeezed Lexxia a little tighter.
" We should probably get back inside. We could actually get in serious trouble if we got caught out here."
Lexxia gave a soft laugh.
" Five more minutes? The danger is half the fun."
Roxim sighed.
" Only five minutes. And if it comes to it, I'm sacrificing you so I can get in the clear.''
Lexxia snorted at her brother's blatant lie. She knew that Roxim would never abandon her. And that was a comforting thought going into the Arena tomorrow where any one of their allies could change their minds and leave them. Lexxia smiled to herself as she touched her necklace.
Maybe some of their allies were a guarantee.

A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 41
( Sawyer's POV )
" That's the plan."
It was the night before everyone was going to be sent to the Arena and Sawyer was going over the strategy and game plan with Malikai up in his room. Malikai rolled his neck and stretched his arms above his head.
" It's a good plan. If this works we shouldn't have any casualties during the Bloodbath and we'll have plenty of supplies to get us through the rest of the Game."
Sawyer nodded. He had run through every possible situation that could come up during the Bloodbath, this was the best option.
" You'll make sure to inform everyone about the plan tomorrow at breakfast?"
Malikai nodded.
" Yeah I'll make sure the message is delivered. I still can't believe that your father is running drills with you tomorrow, is the Arena not enough?"
Sawyer wasn't looking forward to the early morning that he was going to have, but there was something comforting in the fact that the last thing he would do is train with his father. It was such a familiar part of his life and Sawyer knew that he would actually be a lot more relaxed and at ease before the Arena after training with his father.
Malikai clapped his hands onto his legs and stood up. Reaching a hand down to pull Sawyer up, Malikai grinned.
" Ok we talked strategy and came up with a plan. Now it's my turn to pick our activity, help me with this."
Sawyer watched in confusion as Malikai started to push some of the furniture in Sawyer's room together. He was dragging things into the middle of the room and Sawyer watched as the order of his room was undone.
" Why are you moving my furniture and taking the blankets from off my bed?"
Malikai rolled his eyes as he continued to pull Sawyer's comforter off the bed.
" Please man, I know that you're using your top sheet at the most. Just help me with this, we still need to grab the ones from my room as well."
Sawyer complied with Malikai's wishes and helped to pile everything in the middle of the room. He was only becoming more confused though. Malikai had a satisfied grin on his face as he turned to face Sawyer, his dimples showing in his enthusiasm.
" Ok we have all the supplies. Now we build."
Sawyer cocked his head to the side.
" Build what?"
Malikai only grinned wider.
" A fort duh."
Sawyer arched an eyebrow. Why on earth would they need to build a fort? They weren't under any kind of attack, and even if they were under attack blankets were a terrible shield. Malikai saw Sawyer's confusion and sighed.
" Growing up Derek and I used to build forts and then we would stay in them overnight. I wanted to do that with my other brother before we face death and glory, make a few more final good memories."
Sawyer slowly nodded, a small grin spreading across his face at being called Malikai's brother. Grabbing the corner of one of the blankets Sawyer helped Malikai spread it over the dresser and two chairs.
" So what do we do once the fort is built?"
Malikai grinned.
" We grab snacks, flashlights, and a few pillows."
Sawyer nodded.
" We dig in. Got it."
After the completion of their fort and the gathering of supplies both boys made themselves comfortable in the fort. Sawyer felt childish as he sat with Malikai underneath blankets, the light of the flashlights casting shadows across the fabric walls. This was something that Sawyer never would have thought of doing himself, but maybe that was the point. Malikai started to sort through the various snacks that he had brought into the fort and Sawyer threw a chocolate bar in Malikai's direction, there was no way he was eating that.
Once everything was sorted Malikai lounged against the various pillows that the boys had brought into their fort. Taking a bite from his chocolate bar Malikia looked at Sawyer.
" So did you finish your book?"
Malikai was talking about the book that Sawyer had brought with him on the train. Sawyer had chosen to bring the book with him and had made a goal of finishing it before they left for the Arena. The book had supposedly been his mother's favorite.
" It was interesting, The lengths that the main character was willing to go for the people he cared about was intriguing."
Malikai laughed.
" Reminds me of someone I know."
Sawyer sat with his legs crossed and looked down at his ring. He wasn't sure how to bring up what was on his mind, luckily he never seemed to have to know what to do around Malikai.
" Talk to me, what's happening in your head right now?"
Sawyer took a breath.
" Is it weird that I wish I knew why she left? I've never once sat and thought about her, I honestly don't know why I am now. But there's a part of me that wishes I could get answers as to why."
Malikai gave Sawyer a sympathetic look.
" Sawyer its natural to want to know what happened, dude she's your mother. You're probably thinking about it now because of the uncertainty of what we're going to be going through. It's a part of your story that's unknown and you've never liked not having the full story."
Sawyer leaned back and stared up at the fabric ceiling watching the shadows dance.
" What was it like for you to grow up with your mother?"
Malikai shifted so he was lying next to Sawyer.
" I can't imagine what my life would have been without her. She was always in my corner. She has a way of making everything feel safe and comfortable, Derek and I were always content with the life our mom gave us. It wasn't easy for her after our dad died, but she did it. She liked you, you know that right?"
Sawyer didn't think that was entirely true. Malikai's mother tolerated Sawyer, maybe felt pity for him, but like him? That just didn't seem right. Sawyer's thoughts wandered.
" I don't think my mother was a soft woman. She would have had to have been a special type of woman to keep up with my father. He loved her, truly loved her. At least that's what Theseus has said in the past, that when she left my father changed."
Malikai sat in silence. Sawyer shook his head clearing his throat.
" So what do you and Derek usually do when you make these forts?''
Malikai grabbed a flashlight.
" You'll like this."
Malikai spent the next while showing Sawyer how to make shadow animals across the walls. Malikai even told a few stories that he swore were scarier when his brother told them. Sawyer didn't care, he was happy to just be here with his friend sharing in something that he cared about.
Maybe there was a purpose to building forts and telling stories with friends under a bunch of blankets. Maybe it was just to share in a place of companionship or maybe it was just to bring the people you cared about together. Sawyer's only regret was that he hadn't built a fort with Malikai sooner.

A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 40
( Lexxia's POV )
A sigh that led to a content smile escaped Lexxia as she lay on Sawyer's chest.
The two of them were still in the rearranged Training Room and Lexxia lay listening to Sawyer's heart and steady breathing. Sawyer had an arm wrapped around Lexxia's waist, his other hand traced the scars that lined Lexxia's arms. Lexxia couldn't remember the last time she had let her guard down and just relaxed, but here with Sawyer's arm securely around her, she felt like she finally could. It seemed like Lexxia wasn't the only one, because even though Sawyer's fingers were tracing patterns into her skin, this was the most still Lexxia had ever seen him.
It amazed Lexxia that only a short time ago she and Sawyer had been complete strangers from two very different worlds. It was starting to feel like he had always been by her side, always been as consistent as her shadow. There was a level of calm and peace that this boy had brought her, and Lexxia was even starting to see some of her old spark come back.
Lexxia was starting to feel like she could tell Sawyer things that she couldn't tell anyone else without getting judged in return, she was even thinking that maybe she could tell him about what her dad had originally planned for her to do. Lexxia had seen the way that Sawyer and his father responded to each other, how Sawyer was expected to follow orders without question regardless of how he felt about it. Maybe he would understand the position that Lexxia had been in, it's not like she thought that way anymore though.
Lexxia was still undecided about what to do there, but she did have other questions.
" Can I ask you something? If you knew that you were going to be in the Game this year, why didn't you volunteer?"
Sawyer shifted a bit as he considered Lexxia's question.
" There was no point in me volunteering. Everyone in District 2 knew that I was going to be apart of the Games, it's literally the reason I was born and what I've trained for my whole life. My family is very traditional, so getting Reaped was only fitting even if the Reaping for me was just a formality. Why make things a bigger deal than they need to be? Leave the theatrics to District 12."
Sawyer let out a sigh.
" The only way I would have volunteered was if Malikai had been Reaped first. There isn't anything I wouldn't have done to spare him this."
Lexxia heard the pain in Sawyer's voice and could almost feel the weight that he was carrying. In a way she understood what he was going through, Roxim was here with her as well. Lexxia pushed herself up and rested her chin on her hands, looking down into Sawyer's face.
" Are you worried about the Arena?"
Sawyer closed his eyes as he nodded. The shock that passed over Lexxia hit her like a wave. Sawyer was worried about the Arena? The boy who had been nothing but confidant about his odds this entire time?
" I'm worried about how all of you will see me when we get to the Arena. I'm worried that when we get there all of you are going to see me as the weapon that I was made to be. I guess I'm afraid that you're going to see me for what I was designed for."
Lexxia leaned forward and gently kissed Sawyer.
" I'm looking at you right now and I don't see a weapon."
Lexxia traced the scar that lined Sawyer's face and watched as pain crossed his features as Sawyer leaned into Lexxia's touch.
" No. No right now you see a tame and leashed version of who I am. You've seen me train and fight before, but you've never seen me actually violent. Trust me it's not the same, there's a reason that I scored a twelve and a reason that I was wanted by the Careers."
Lexxia realized that Sawyer was afraid. He was afraid that the people who had come to see him as a member of their team, as a leader, even as a friend, were all going turn and see him as an object to be used. And why shouldn't he? That's what it sounded like had been happening his whole life, it's what Lexxia had originally been told to do. The only reason she had originally agreed to team up with him.
Lexxia knew then that she couldn't tell Sawyer what her dad had planned. She couldn't hurt him like that, couldn't let him think that he was just someone that she was going to use and then throw away when it suited her. And she wasn't technically lying to him because that was no longer true, she didn't want to use him as a means to an end.
Sawyer cleared his throat and pushed himself into a seated position, causing Lexxia to sit up with him.
" I have something that belongs to you. I wanted to right a wrong."
Lexxia gasped as tears filled her eyes. Sawyer had taken out of his pocket Lexxia's necklace, the ruby catching the light from all the candles in the room. Sawyer watched Lexxia's face closely.
" I came back and found it the night after I made you lose it. The chain was broken, but I was able to have Theseus help me fix it so the chain is still the same one. It just took a while because Theseus didn't have any of his tools. I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry for breaking it and then not realizing what it ment to you and-"
Lexxia cut Sawyer's apology off by throwing her arms around his neck. The tears that fell down her face were ones of relief and joy as thank you seemed to be the only words she knew how to say. Sawyer had flinched and gone tense at Lexxia's sudden burst of reaction, but relaxed and held her close as he realized there was no danger.
The familiar weight of the necklace was like a balm on an open wound as Sawyer helped Lexxia put her necklace on. It was weird how a piece of jewelry could make her feel almost whole, but Lexxia felt like she had just been given back a missing part of her. Amarea felt close again and Lexxia could almost feel her sister's strength wash over her. Turning to face Sawyer again Lexxia smiled at him through her tear filled eyes.
" I think this is the best date I've ever been on."
Sawyer smiled and brushed her tears with his thumb as his hand cupped the side of Lexxia's face. He seemed to be studying her, but not like how he studied everyone else. Sawyer always studied people like they were threats or problems he needed to solve, but as he studied Lexxia's face she only saw a desire to know her shining in Sawyer's eyes.
The look in Sawyer's eyes, even though he wasn't viewing her as a threat or the enemy was intense. Honestly everything about this boy was intense, but Lexxia couldn't help but be drawn into the depths that she knew was there just underneath the surface. The understanding that if she let him, Sawyer would care about her with a burning passion filled Lexxia with a mix of longing and dread.
Because what happened if the fire that burned so brightly now was dimmed because of something she did? Lexxia had a track record of having the things she cared about ripped away from her in violent ways. And it left her wondering how long it would take for Sawyer to turn icy and cold if Lexxia missed things up?

A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 39
( Sawyer's POV )
Sawyer looked around the Training Room extremely satisfied.
He had really taken what Malikai had said to heart and had sought help from Nyx Hollin. The Mentor from District 5 had given Sawyer a funny look when he had told her his plan, but she had agreed to help him all the same. Hollin had helped to gather supplies while Sawyer was doing his interview. Taking just enough time to change out of the clothes his team had put him in and grab something else from his room, Sawyer had come and helped with the other last minute setup.
Hollin gave Sawyer a small smile and placed a hand on his arm. The older woman didn't even reach Sawyer's shoulder, the respect that Sawyer had for the woman was great.
" I really think she's going to like this. You really are full of surprises, aren't you?"
" I couldn't have pulled it off without your help."
And Sawyer ment it, looking around the Training Room you wouldn't recognize it. Candles were lit all around the room and Sawyer had moved most of the training gear so the middle of the room was empty. Hollin had found a small music player and they had set it up over in a corner. The Training Room had become a makeshift dance floor.
Hollin looked up at Sawyer.
" Why did you do this?"
Sawyer shrugged.
" She likes to dance."
Hollin had left Sawyer to his own company, and when the elevator finally arrived with Lexxia in it Sawyer couldn't help the smile that crossed his face. Lexxia's face as she took in the transformed Training Room was full of wonder, the light from the candles made her eyes shine. She was wearing the same hoodie that she had been the other night and Sawyer couldn't help the feeling that crawled over his skin, he couldn't explain what it was but he didn't like it very much.
Walking over to where Lexxia was Sawyer extended his hand to her with a grin. Lexxia cautiously took it while giving him a skeptical look.
" What's all this?"
" I wanted to take you on a real date. You know not just training and preparing for the Arena, but something that was nice. Malikai said that was normal so if it's not, you can blame him."
Lexxia looked around the room again in wonder.
" You did this for me?"
Sawyer nodded. With a small bow he placed a kiss to the back of Lexxia's hand.
" Will you Lexxia Pierce, do me the honor of going on a date with me?"
Lexxia laughed.
" It would be kinda rude to say no, now that I've seen what you've done. So what are we doing on this date?"
Sawyer straightened and smiled leading Lexxia to the middle of the room. Leaving Lexxia's side, Sawyer walked over to the music player.
" I figured we could have a dance that you might be able to recall later on."
Lexxia's cheeks had flushed at Sawyer's comment and he gave her a smile to show that he had only been teasing. The two of them swayed to the music for a few moments before Sawyer led Lexxia into a twirl, her laughter was better than any music that could have possibly been playing. Looking up at Sawyer, Lexxia nodded.
" I like you better in your training clothes, its defiantly more you. Though why you chose to wear them versus normal clothes still baffles me."
Sawyer shrugged.
" This is normal for me, well mostly normal. The Capital doesn't have as great of quality training gear as 2."
Sawyer faltered a bit as the pace of the music changed. Lexxia grinned and took the lead.
" So you only know how to slow dance, huh Princess? Don't worry I won't let you trip."
Sawyer had to admit that the fast pace spinning that Lexxia was now leading him through was enjoyable, and he found himself laughing right along with her. Lexxia was not able to prevent Sawyer from tripping though and they both ended up on the ground, Lexxia landing on Sawyer's chest. At least they were still laughing.
Sawyer's breath caught as he looked up into Lexxia's face, her dark hair falling like a curtain next to her face. Lexxia's cheeks still had a flush to them but that was because of the pace of their dance. Her eyes were extremely captivating as they were alight with joy, Sawyer felt his mind both speed up and slow at the same time as he got lost in Lexxia's gaze. And another thing that Sawyer noticed with their close proximity was the fact that Lexxia had a scar along her bottom lip, a scar that moved with the smile on Lexxia's face.
" Are you just going to stare at me the whole time, or are you actually going to kiss me?"
Sawyer just smiled up at Lexxia shaking his head slightly.
"Not unless you ask me to. I stole a kiss already, probably shouldn't have it was rude. Now if I kiss you it has to be because you want me to, I can't hurt you if I've been given an invitation."
Lexxia shook her head a playful smile on her lips.
" If that was you stealing something, then you would make a terrible thief. And let me ask YOU something, do you want to kiss me?"
Sawyer stayed as still as possible as Lexxia whispered the last part near his ear. His heart was racing and with her hand on his chest, Sawyer knew that Lexxia could feel it.
'' Very much so."
Sawyer could feel Lexxia's smile she was so close. Raising her face to where she was just above his own, Lexxia met Sawyer's gaze her voice just above a whisper.
" Kiss me Sawyer Chance."
And he did. He kissed her like they had known each other in a past life and fate finally had brought them back together. And the best part was that Lexxia kissed him back like she remembered it as well.

A Love Like Fire and Ice Chapter 37
( Sawyer's POV )
Sawyer wasn't exactly panicking, but he wasn't having a great time either.
Malikai had just started his interview and the crowd was absolutely loving him. Sawyer wasn't surprised in the slightest, Malikai had always been good with controlling a crowd.
Sawyer didn't have a fear of crowds or public speaking. What he had was low tolerance for idiots and performers, he was going to get along great with Caesar Flickerman.
Sawyer caught sight of Lexxia and almost forgot how to breathe. She was absolutely stunning, and the smile that crossed her face when she saw him starting almost did him in right then and there. Crossing the room to where Lexxia stood Sawyer smiled at her before kissing her hand.
" You look beautiful."
Lexxia made a show of looking Sawyer over.
" Not too bad yourself Princess, your stylist knows how to dress you for a crowd. You shouldn't be over here though, you could be called any second."
Sawyer brushed off Lexxia's concern.
" If anyone can keep Caesar Flickerman talking, it's Malikai. Plus I needed to ask you something."
Lexxia laughed.
" What do you need to ask?"
Sawyer did his best to remain calm and relaxed.
" Will you meet me in the Training Room after the interviews?"
Lexxia looked confused but nodded.
" Chance! Your up."
Sawyer turned at the sound of his name, but turned back and placed a kiss to Lexxia's cheek before making his way over to the stage entrance. Malikai was walking back waving to the crowd, who were all cheering, and grinned at Sawyer.
" Ok I managed to keep Caesar talking for longer than normal. That means your interview is going to be shorter than everyone else's for the sake of keeping on schedule."
" You're a life saver."
Malikai laughed.
" True on many levels. Just remember to smile."
Sawyer did not in fact smile.
When he walked onto the stage after Caesar called his name Sawyer was nearly blinded by the stage lights. Managing to keep cool Sawyer took measured and confidant steps across the stage. The crowd was completely silent as Sawyer walked, he was a cold contrast to Malikai who had been someone that the audience naturally was drawn to. Taking a seat Sawyer turned to Caesar.
" Well I've got to say young man you own this room, and you look great doing it! One thing I've noticed about you throughout this entire thing so far is your team seems to be setting you up as a Victor. First the laurel crown with the chariots and now this outfit that screams look at me!"
Sawyer nodded.
" They defiantly seem to be trying to send a message."
Caesar laughed. Sawyer hadn't thought that anything he said was funny, maybe Caesar was on something.
" Well I and the rest of the Capital are getting that message loud and clear! You sir are a winner, after all it's in your blood isn't it."
" My father is a Victor. Call it family tradition."
" Speaking of tradition, what is this I hear about the famous Chance family crest being the inspiration behind the name of your alliance? The Wolf Pack Alliance if I'm correct?"
Sawyer adjusted his ring as he nodded.
" I'm deeply honored that my alliance chose to have my family represented in such a way. But it's more than that Caesar, it's a warning."
Caesar raised his eyebrows and dramatically looked to the crowd.
" Do tell us, what warning is there?"
At this Sawyer looked over the crowd with a cool gaze.
" Wolves protect their pack. They stand together and are lethal to those who stand against them. This is the promise that I'm making to not only my alliance, but to everyone who comes against it, whether the other Tributes or the Capital. I will defend those who choose to stand with me, and I will take out those who don't."
Sawyer realized a little to late how dangerous his words could look. It was pretty common knowledge that the Capital was on high alert around the Games, it was the time that what remained of the Rebellion was more likely to make moves. Realizing he needed to fix things Sawyer gave the audience a small shrug.
" Just something for sponsors to keep in mind."
Caesar seemed to shake himself from whatever daze he had been and laughed putting the crowd at ease.
" Would you just listen to this young man Panem! He's a man for his team and we just love that! I had some other questions for you but it looks like we're out of time. Sawyer Chance everybody, the man destined for greatness!"
Sawyer stood up and nodded at the crowed. The audience started cheering and Sawyer walked off the stage, thankful that he didn't have to get stuck with Caesar asking him any personal questions.
Malikai shook his head in amazement.
" You're crazy, you know that right?"
Sawyer shook his head.
" I just told the truth. How people take it isn't my problem, just look where I come from if anyone questions my loyalty to a rebellion."
Malikai put his arm around Sawyer's shoulders and laughed.
" Trust me, no one would think that you're a part of a revolution if they knew you."
Sawyer sure hoped so. He didn't need anyone thinking that he was apart of some ragtag group of outlaws, all he wanted to do was protect his people.
