SCENE 4 – NIGHT on the Hills

The Soldier leads the children through the shattered village. The crunch of their feet on rubble and glass resonates loudly in the silence.

At the edge: a strip of vegetation, where shrubs and young trees slowly take over the rubble.
It is the border—behind them, smoke and death, ahead of them, shadow and uncertainty.

The children sink down among the bushes, exhausted. Their faces are pale, but their eyes still burn with life.

The Soldier looks back at the village. The burning farmhouse casts flickering light on the hillside of corpses. It seems as if the flames themselves are reaching for them.

He kneels beside the children.
Checks the bandages, shares the last crumbs of bread.

SOLDIER
(softly, almost paternally)
Rest here. Not a sound. I will return.

The oldest boy grabs his sleeve—a silent gesture of distrust and fear. The Soldier looks at him intently, then briefly places a hand on the boy's shoulder.

SOLDIER
(firmly)
I won't leave you behind.

The children press themselves deeper into the greenery.
The Soldier stands up, takes one last look, and disappears into the shadows of the forest.

SCENE 3 – THE HOUSE – DARKNESS

The Soldier takes one last look at the mound of dead. His eyes narrow.
Then he turns and heads back toward the house.

INSIDE – AMONG THE RUBBLE
The three children are still sitting in the same spot. The bread is partly eaten, the canteen half empty.
They look up as he enters, tense as if he were a stranger—and yet also hopeful.

The Soldier bends his knees, quickly inspects their wounds. He carefully lifts an arm, a leg.
His hands are rough, but his gestures surprisingly controlled.

SOLDIER
(muttering, more to himself than to them)

You… can still walk.

He slides his rifle from his shoulder and places it beside him. He slowly helps the oldest child to his feet, testing if he can stand. The child staggers, but takes a step. The other two follow with difficulty.

The Soldier nods slowly, relieved but also tense.
His gaze wanders outside, where the smoke billows ominously across the sky.

SOLDIER
(firmly, almost commandingly)
Stay together. And quiet.

He picks up his rifle again, lifts the smallest child a little to help, and gestures for the others to stay down.

SCENE 2 – OUTDOORS, EDGE OF THE FOREST – EVENING

The Soldier steps outside. The air is thick with smoke.
He pauses, his breath visible on the cold air.

Before him: a hillside strewn with corpses, uniforms jumbled, friend and foe unrecognizable amid the rubble.
Further on, a farmhouse burns fiercely, flames licking the roof, sparks dancing in the air.

The silence is deafening.
No movement.
No sound, except the crackling of fire and a cawing crow alighting on a dead soldier.

The Soldier tenses his jaw. His eyes scan the hillside searchingly.

SOLDIER (inner voice / whispering)
Where are you…?

He slowly slides off his helmet, wipes the sweat and dust from his forehead.
His gaze settles on a dead comrade—a recognizable face. He swallows, but remains steadfast.

He realizes: he's in the right place, at the right time… and yet he's alive.
An uneasy realization crosses his face.

He turns halfway, a final glance toward the house with the children. Then back to the burning farmhouse.

The darkness seems to be closing in.

SCENE 1 – DESTROYED VILLAGE – DUSK

The village lies in ruins. Smoke billows from collapsed houses. Silence, except for a few distant shots.

The SOLDIER (late 20s, hardened, weary) staggers down the street, rifle in hand. His gaze is vacant, but watchful.

A soft cry catches his attention. He pushes open a broken door.

INSIDE – AMONG THE RUBBLE
Three children, battered, blood and dust on their faces. Their eyes wide with pain and fear.

The Soldier kneels. His breath quickens momentarily—hesitation.
Then he unfastens his canteen and lets each child take a sip.
He tears a piece of bread into three pieces and places it in their trembling hands.

With rough hands, he quickly washes their wounds, tears off a piece of his uniform to make a bandage.

SOLDIER
(softly, in a rough voice)
Stay down… eat and drink.
I'll be right back.
I'm going to see what's going on.

The children look at him, a mix of hope and distrust. He stands up, takes one last look, and disappears back outside.

Always been fascinated by the assasination of JFK , as a caretaker of the deceased i happen to work with Forensic experts , they are doing a great job! The wounds were , a straight throat to neck or neck to throat entry exit and finally the president was finished off to the right side of his skull. imho the school book depository is an impossible angle.
