Local residents may have noticed some action in the sky this week, with the CFS deploying 6 water bombers to assist with fighting the fires currently burning at Wilmington.
The aircraft are using the Port Pirie Aerodrome as a base to refuel and refill and then fly back to the fire-affected areas.
The water bombers will continue their firefighting efforts until the fires are under control, which could take up to a week.
There is a bush fire at Alligator Gorge, near Wilmington in the Mount Remarkable National Park in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
