Ola, Uber and Rapido drivers will observe an “All-India Breakdown” on February 7 to protest what they describe as fare exploitation and a lack of government action, the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum (TADF) said.
In a statement, the union said that despite the notification of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, aggregator companies continue to arbitrarily determine fares, leaving drivers vulnerable to income insecurity, mounting debt and unsustainable working conditions.
The forum also alleged that commuters are affected by surge-pricing manipulation and weak regulatory oversight.
It criticised both central and state governments for failing to notify minimum base fares, arguing that the absence of such safeguards allows platforms to cut driver earnings while increasing commissions.
According to the union, rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance costs, insurance expenses and operational risks are being pushed entirely onto drivers, making dignified livelihoods increasingly difficult.
The drivers’ body has demanded the immediate notification of minimum base fares and a ban on the use of private, non-commercial vehicles for app-based commercial ride services.

bus being driven with a broken steering wheel is NOT from Tamil Nadu!
Viral claim:
A photo is being circulated on social media claiming that a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus is being operated with a broken steering wheel.
What is the truth?
This is completely false information.
This photo has been shared since 2009, claiming that a Chinese driver operated a bus with a broken steering wheel. It is now being wrongly circulated as a Tamil Nadu government bus.
Do not spread rumors!

Attention all vehicle drivers:
If you do not complete this process, it will not be possible to renew your vehicle insurance.
In 2011, Chennai became the first city in India to introduce electronic challans (e-challans) to fine motorists who violated traffic rules.
Later, the e-challan system was expanded across the country, and at present, fines are being imposed under the “One Nation, One Challan” scheme. Vehicle drivers must be aware of how to pay e-challans online.
Over the past few years, reports indicate that many motorists have not paid their traffic fines. In this situation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, has already instructed drivers who have not yet paid their fines to do so immediately. Otherwise, they have been warned that vehicle insurance cannot be renewed and driving licences may be cancelled.
According to the Transport Department, the total outstanding traffic fine amount yet to be paid by motorists has crossed ₹14,000 crore.
Steps to pay traffic fines through the e-challan system:
First, visit the website echallan.parivahan.gov.in.
You can search for fine details using the challan number, vehicle number, or driving licence number.
It is advisable to use the challan number specifically.
Enter the challan number and type the captcha code displayed on the screen.
Then, verify all your e-challan details and click on “Pay Fine Amount.”
Enter your mobile number and verify it using the OTP.
Accept the terms and conditions and choose an online payment method.
You can pay the fine using UPI, internet banking, or mobile banking.
After completing the payment, it is advisable to print and keep the receipt.
As AI cameras have been installed on roads, traffic violators are being continuously monitored. Apart from traffic police issuing e-challans directly, e-challans are also generated online using vehicle numbers captured by cameras.
If you have violated traffic rules, immediately visit the official website, enter your vehicle number, and check whether any e-challan has been issued for your vehicle.
Risk of receiving 5 e-challans:
It has been stated that if a driver receives five or more e-challans in a single year for traffic violations, their driving licence may be cancelled.
However, this decision will be taken only after conducting an inquiry and calling the driver for a hearing. Depending on the nature of the violation, the driving licence may be suspended for 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year.
