The chronological order of the Prophets mentioned in the Quran is not explicitly laid out in a single list, but based on historical and Islamic sources, general sequence of some of the Prophets mentioned in the Quran goes like this:
1. Adam (AS) – The first Prophet and the first human created by Allah.
2. Idris (AS) – Often identified as Enoch in Judeo-Christian tradition.
3. Nuh (Noah) (AS) – Sent to warn his people of the great flood.
4. Hud (AS) – Sent to the people of ‘Ad.
5. Saleh (AS) – Sent to the people of Thamud.
6. Ibrahim (Abraham) (AS) – Known for his unwavering faith in Allah, he is considered the father of several important Prophets.
7. Lut (Lot) (AS) – Sent to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.
8. Isma'il (Ishmael) (AS) – The son of Ibrahim (AS), associated with the Kaaba and the Arabs.
9. Ishaq (Isaac) (AS) – Another son of Ibrahim (AS), his lineage led to the Israelites.
10. Ya'qub (Jacob) (AS) – The son of Ishaq (AS), also known as Israel, from whom the twelve tribes of Israel originated.
11. Yusuf (Joseph) (AS) – Known for his story of betrayal by his brothers and eventual rise to power in Egypt.
12. Shu'ayb (AS) – Sent to the people of Madyan.
13. Ayyub (Job) (AS) – Known for his patience during great suffering.
14. Dhul-Kifl (AS) – Often identified with Ezekiel, though there are different views on his identity.
15. Musa (Moses) (AS) – One of the greatest Prophets, who led the Israelites out of Egypt.
16. Harun (Aaron) (AS) – The brother of Musa (AS), who supported him in his mission.
17. Dawud (David) (AS) – A king and Prophet, known for his Psalms (Zabur).
18. Sulayman (Solomon) (AS) – The son of Dawud (AS), known for his wisdom and dominion over the jinn.
19. Ilyas (Elias, Elijah) (AS) – Sent to the people of Israel.
20. Alyasa (Elisha) (AS) – A successor to Ilyas (AS).
21. Yunus (Jonah) (AS) – Known for being swallowed by a large fish after preaching to the people of Nineveh.
22. Zakariya (Zechariah) (AS) – The father of Yahya (AS).
23. Yahya (John the Baptist) (AS) – Known for his piety and as the forerunner of Isa (AS).
24. Isa (Jesus) (AS) – One of the greatest Prophets, regarded as the Messiah in Islam, but not crucified, as per Islamic belief.
25. Muhammad (SAW) – The last and final Prophet, whose teachings are preserved in the Quran.
While the Quran mentions 25 specific Prophets by name, Islamic tradition holds that there were many more Prophets sent by Allah. The total number of Prophets is often said to be 124,000 (referred to as "one lakh and a few"), though this number is not explicitly stated in the Quran. This figure comes from Hadith literature and is widely accepted in Islamic teachings, although the exact number is not crucial to Islamic belief. But there this verse in quran that I personally think indicates this:
“And We have sent messengers before you. Among them are those whom We have related to you, and among them are those whom We have not related to you." (Quran 40:78)
This verse highlights that the number of Prophets is far greater than those mentioned in the Quran. In addition to the 124,000 Prophets and the 25 mentioned in the Quran, there are 5 Prophets from these 25 often referred to as the “Ululazam” (Arch-Prophets). These 5 Prophets are considered to be of the highest rank and are specifically mentioned in both the Quran and Hadith. If you are interested in learning about them I suggest you read this answer of mine:
