It is Sea Otter Awareness Week everyone! Kelp forests depend on sea otters to control populations of sea urchins and other kelp-eating animals. Reintroducing sea otters to the Northern California and Oregon coasts, where there has been a dramatic loss of kelp forests, could help restore and renew these vital ecosystems.

I've seen a lot of new subscribers lately, so I wanted to welcome people in and let everyone know what they can expect on my channel! I'm KP, a marine biologist who has primarily worked with marine mammals (with a few exceptions). I created the KPassionate channel in 2020 to share my love of ocean life, promote conservation organizations, and talk about science and current events in marine biology. Marine Biology livestream will be a little earlier than normal tomorrow so I can attend a fundraiser for polar bears.
