Remembering the legendary Maestra Montserrat Caballé ❤️
Today she would be 90 years old!
I am forever grateful to have learned the breathing support technique from Maestra Montserrat Caballé, which confirmed what I had previously learned from my first teacher, Baroness Nora Lopez Von Briessen, a direct third-generation student of the Manuel Garcia School.
In 2009, after spending three years studying with Maestra Mirella Freni in Modena on the path of Ettore Campogalliani School (Luciano Pavarotti, Renata Tebaldi, Aldo Protti, Ruggiero Raimondi), I had the honor of learning with Montserrat Caballé. At that time, I was also studying with Maestro Leodino Ferri, a student of Arturo Melocchi. I visited Caballé between my performances in Munich, having already performed in Zurich and other renowned opera houses.
During this period, I was also working with Maestro Nicola Martinucci. Maestra Caballé with a big smile and shiny big eyes asked me: why I came to her masterclasses when I was already enjoying a full career?. I told her it was a dream come true to meet her and learn her unique breath and support techniques.
Together, we practiced the most incredible diaphragmatic and intercostal strengthening exercises. This experience was a huge confirmation of what I had learned from the Garcia School. She was so lovely on those weeks of Masterclass and one to one lessons, she told me beautiful things about my voice that will always stay in my heart.
We will forever remember Montserrat Caballé and her technical heritage, ensuring that the historic singing techniques of great masters like her live on through the ones as me who have learned from them.

13 years ago my vocal technique started the real path to power secureness and freedom thanks to this Family, the Del Monaco! In 2008 Giancarlo Del Monaco came to see one of my rehearsals of Luisa Miller in Leipzig Opera in Germany where he was directing Manon Lescaut, he guided me to meet Maestro Leodino Ferri in Rome, one of the last direct students of Arturo Melocchi and friend of his father Mario Del Monaco. After that, my voice and technique are what you know now. I can just say, THANK YOU DEL MONACO father for inspiring me, and DEL MONACO son for advising me! Giancarlo Monsalve.
