The Supreme Court on Friday stated that Sumeet Sabharwal, pilot-in-command of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner that cr@shed in Ahmedabad, kiโฑกโฑกing 260 people, cannot be bl@med. The court reassured the 91-year-old father not to bear the bส‰rden, calling it an
acc!dent. Notices were issued to the Centre and DGCA on his plea.

SC Statement & Investigation

๐Ÿ‘‰ Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi emphasized that the preliminary Aircraft
Acc!dent Investigation Bureau (AAIB) report pointed to fuel supply issues post-takeoff, not pilot error. The bench clarified that the investigationโ€™s aim is preventive, not to assign bl@me.

Father Demands Transparent Inquiry

๐Ÿ‘‰ Pushkaraj Sabharwal sought a fair, technically robust probe, highlighting r!sks of incomplete investigations undermining aviation safety and viรธlating Article 21 of the Constitution.

Next Steps

๐Ÿ‘‰ The Supreme Court listed the matter for further hearing on November 10, ensuring proper oversight of the investigation.

In a move aimed at stimulating economic growth, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced the repo rate by 0.25% to 6.25%. This is the first rate cut in five years, signaling a shift toward a more accommodative monetary policy.

The rate cut is expected to lower home loan EMIs, auto loans, and personal loans, providing financial relief to borrowers. With moderating inflation, especially in food prices, the RBI had the flexibility to reduce rates. This move could encourage consumer spending and business investment.

The last time the RBI lowered the repo rate was in May 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. This cut was larger, reducing the rate by 0.40% to support businesses and individuals during the lockdown. The current rate cut is more strategic, reflecting economic recovery and controlled inflation.

While the repo rate cut is helpful, some experts argue that more is needed to address liquidity issues in the economy. Measures such as reducing the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) or conducting open market operations might be necessary to ensure smoother credit flow and financial stability.

Though the repo rate cut is a positive step, it might not be enough to address all economic challenges. Financial experts suggest that addressing liquidity concerns and implementing structural reforms could be essential for sustained growth and financial relief.

โšก What other measures do you think the RBI should take to support the economy?

๐Ÿ’ฅ Eligible individuals can claim up to $20 per device, with a maximum of five devices per person.

Apple has agreed to a $95 million (โ‚น815 crores) settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit filed in Oakland, California, regarding its voice assistant, Siri, which allegedly recorded users' private conversations without consent. This lawsuit, filed five years ago, accused Apple of eavesdropping when Siri was unintentionally activated, sharing sensitive audio with third parties for targeted advertising. While Apple denies any wrongdoing, the proposed settlement requires judicial approval and mandates the deletion of all relevant audio recordings obtained before October 2019.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Key Details:
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Settlement Fund: The $95 million will be distributed among U.S. users of Siri-enabled devices who experienced these privacy violations.

Google's latest announcement could be a breakthrough for using Artificial Intelligence(AI) in healthcare. During last week's event, Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced a new algorithm to predict and prevent cardiovascular events with a single retina scan. By matching the scans with a matrix for cardiovascular risks, the algorithm can reveal the heart's health condition through a person's eyes.

So far, the algorithm has shown to be correct in 70% of the cases where it has been tested. If effective, this new AI technique could eliminate the need for a long series of tests and scans currently required to detect cardiovascular risks.

According to Dr Mahipal S Sachdev, Chairman of Centre of Sight, Google's algorithm works in two steps. Firstly, an imaging technique is used to capture a retina picture. This picture displays the blood vessels, which AI then analyzes to provide a diagnosis. "So, if you have a blood vessel that's narrowing or even in cancer cases, leukaemia or diabetic retinopathy can be thrown up," the doctor said. Generative AI can provide human-like ability, but having a doctor involved in medical diagnoses is still advisable. AI can assist doctors in managing more patients, reducing costs, and providing greater accessibility for consumers.

In a press release, the government said nearly 10.6 million Aadhaar-based face-authentication transactions in May had been completed. This is the second consecutive month to register over 10 million face authentication transactions.

Face authentication transactions are necessary for various purposes, such as getting rations through the public distribution system (PDS), verifying Aadhaar-enabled payments, and other government schemes. The government has reported a significant rise in face authentication transactions, with an increase of 38% in May compared to January 2023. This indicates the growing usage of face authentication transactions.

The UIDAI has developed a face authentication solution using AI and machine learning, which is currently being utilized by 47 entities, including state and central government departments and some banks. This solution has multiple applications, such as registering beneficiaries for the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, authenticating beneficiaries in the PM Kisan scheme, and allowing pensioners to generate digital life certificates from home.
