Script
Crenu enters the school as she wears a troubled expression on her face. Dragons of all kinds are together
Crenu: (Thinks) It’s so unfair. Everyone has friends but me. I’m the only dragon who is kind to everyone! What do I get in return? Teasing.
Well, there is Shrew. She’s fierce, but kind to me. And Cielo. They are ridiculously funny, but too loud sometimes. And my only true friend must be Lemour. Too bad she’s sick this week.
(Crenu grabs a chair and Student 1 sticks her tongue out)
Koi: (walks into the classroom in front of the white board.) Hello, class. May I have your attention? (Slowly everyone stops chatting and looks at Koi) Today we will be presenting our presentations about the legend of Kinkajou. Crenu? Would you like to be first?
Crenu: (thinks) I have the best grades in my class. Everyone is so eager to copy me. (Talks) Of course, Ms. Koi. (Crenu walks in front of the board, holding a scroll with beautiful drawings of Kinkajou, Peacemaker and Darkstalker)
It all started about 7 thousand years ago when a dragon called Darkstalker was born…
Crenu enters the library with a sigh. She picks up a book called All about scavengers and starts to cry.
Crenu:(thinks) No one even thinks about how I feel. It’s all about Crenu, who’s the queen of the RainWings? or Can you lend me yesterday’s assignment?
It’ll always be like this, when Lemour is away.
Crenu runs out of the library and crashes into Cielo.
Cielo: Sorry, 67.
Crenu: What? (Thinks) At least he’s no being mean
Cielo: Eeeeeeeuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaa
Crenu: Um… 67 to you, too.
Cielo: What 's wrong, Safari?
Crenu: Nothing
Cielo: If you say so.
Crenu: And what’s 67?
Cielo: Six-seven.
Crenu: Okay. Um… bye.
Cielo: Eeeeeeeeeuuuuuaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Hey where’s Shrewy67?
Crenu: No idea
Cielo: Okay 67Safarini. Eeeeeeeuuuuuuuuu
Crenu: Gotta go!
Crenu: (Thinks) This is the least awkward conversation I’ve ever had with them. (Sighs)
They may be friendly, but they sure are crazy.
Crenu walks away.
She bumps into Aran.
Aran: What’s wrong, tail-kisser?
Crenu: (thinks) Oh no.
Scorpion walks around Aran.
Scorpion: Why did you do that, tail-kisser?
Aran: Maybe she’s sucking. That’s literally all she knows. (Aran flicks his tail at her)
Scorpion: And she hit you. That deserves detention.
Crenu: What? I never-(her frills turn orange)
Silverrain: (goes close to them without noticing) Scorpion, Aran, to my office this instant. Crenu, you too.
They walk into the office.
Silverrain: Explain
Aran: We were just teaching this lump some respect.
Silverrain: I think it is you who needs to learn some respect, Aran. Crenu, you are excused.
Crenu sighs.
Crenu: Yes, Silverrain.
Crenu walks out of the office and gets to the science classroom
Chorus of students: You’re late. (Mean)
Student 1: She deserves detention, doesn’t she, Tidepool?
Tidepool: Enough. She was with Silverrain. Now, we were talking about how dragons first discovered the breath of evil. Crenu?
Crenu: It all started about ten thousand years ago when dragons first arrived to Pantala. They were attacked by bees, beetles, lions, crows and more. The animals moved in sync. When they defeated them, they found a plant. They found out if they cleared it, the attacks stopped.
Tidepool: Correct. Now,who was controlling the animals?
Snake: Cottonmouth, Luna and Freedom.
Tidepool: I was talking with Crenu. And, no Luna defeated them.
Crenu sits down.
Snake: (whisper) Why do you have to act so clever?
Crenu: Sorry. (Shrugs)
Tidepool: Now, Freedom used to be called Lizard. She and Cottonmouth controlled the plant. Cottonmouth did most of the work…
(Later)
Crenu helps Tidepool clean the science classroom.
Tidepool: You know, I read a study the other day about grass.
Crenu: Grass? (Holds an origami rabbit)
Tidepool: Yes. It said 1 acre of grass will supply enough oxygen for 64 dragons a day!
Crenu: Really?
Tidepool: They’ll come around. Just wait. (He folds his wing over Crenu as she walks out of the classroom.)
Crenu opens the door behind the office. She enters her rooms.
Silverrain: Don’t worry. I taught those guys a lesson.
Crenu: Did you use your magic?
Silverrain: My soul’s fine. What would you like for dinner, sweetheart?
Crenu: Stop acting like you’re my mother, because you’re not! (Growls)
Crenu storms into her room. She sleeps until she wakes up and peeks through her door. She accidentally brushes her wing against the pillow and it catches fire. She breathes frostbreath on it.
Koi: Should we tell her? It would make her life easier.
Silverrain: And she might stop fretting over my soul. When I ask her if she wants them changed, she says no. She wouldn’t do it with her own magic. (Eye roll)
Koi: Maybe after she turns ten?
Silverrain: Sure.
Crenu: (Gets on her bed) (Thinks) My own magic? Does she mean my mind reading? She took it off me when I asked her. I can’t be an animus, can I? I don’t want to be magic. I would completely lose myself. Silverrain didn’t want to, but I think she did eliminate my mind reading. She doesn’t know about my visions. I know I’m a hybrid. Let’s see… MudWing feet, SeaWing belly, RainWing frills, tail bard, NightWing powers, firescales, Icewing spikes, antennae, silk, paralysing stingers, leafspeak…
She drifts into sleep.
She wakes up. Crenu goes to the lounge room and eats the pancakes on the table.
She puts her ID on and goes through the office.
Silverrain: Hi, dear.
Crenu: Sorry about what I said yesterday.
Silverrain: It’s okay.
Crenu goes into the classroom and sits down.
Lemour enters the classroom.
Crenu: Lemour! You came! ( Goes and hugs her)
Lemour: (thinks/telepathy) Shh. You missed me, didn’t you? Don’t worry; I’m better now.
Crenu:(thinks/telepathy) Aran and Scorpion were mean again, and, well you know, everything. I missed you.
A swarm of students comes into the room.
Lemour:(thinks/ telepathy) Something’ s bothering you.
Crenu: You already know(smiles nervously).
Lemour: (thinks/ telepathy) I can’t believe you didn’t know!
Crenu: (thinks telepathy) I don’t want to be magic! Look at what happened to Darkstalker! (Points at poster on the wall)
Lemour: (eye roll) (thinks/telepathy) Prince Turtle and ex-Queen Anemone were animi. They turned out fine. So did Sapphire.
Crenu: (thinks/ telepathy) Fine. Lets try it at the library.
Cielo: (Walks over to desk with Shrew) Limi41! Safarani67! Eeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaa. How are yogurt?
Crenu: Fine, thanks.
Cielo: No. You are treeided.
Lemour: Don’t worry, Cilo555.
Crenu: (thinks/ telepathy) Ha! You know his language.
Shrew: Scorpion and Aran are just a bunch of feather-heads.
Crenu: (sigh) I know.
Shrew: Class starts in about a minute. (Goes to her desk)
