Judge Christina Miranda issued a gag order in the Rashaun Jones today. The filing isn't accessible on the docket.

The Judge signaled last month further restrictions to public access in this case, even floating the idea of restricting docket publication unless and until she decides the contents of a filing will be admissible at trial. She's also considering options like restricting media reporting to reporters who also possess the proper legal credentials to report on legal matters, whatever that means. She stated more than once she was looking at the Karmello Anthony trial as a model, even though this case is in Florida.

I am deeply frustrated with this lack of transparency. Rashaun Jones' second trial (first ended in an acquittal, reportedly with a 5NG-1G split) is still slated for 9/14, for now... I hope the Court doesn't find a reason to delay. He's been in custody for over 5 years.

Yesterday was the motions deadline in the Rashaun Jones case.

🟣DEFENSE FILINGS🟣

Defense is asking the Court to compel Detective Jonathan Grossman to answer certified deposition questions.

Here's what they say he didn't answer:

(Reminder: Detective Grossman has been involved in the Rashaun Jones case since the 2021 arrest. He's monitored Rashaun Jones’s jail calls and has been the main detective handling the jailhouse informant George French Jones (GFJ). He’s the lead detective in the separate Keondre Fields case where GFJ is also a witness)

Questions he refused to answer included:
- Whether he independently corroborated any of the information GFJ provided in this case (even though he said he found GFJ credible because he had corroborated some of his claims)

- Whether GFJ asked for benefits or help in any other case besides asking "Can you help me? in reference to home confinement.

- Two text messages from a number that appeared to be GFJ’s (he said he wouldn’t disclose them because of a pending investigation)

- What he did to investigate GFJ’s July 21 claim that “Jeremy” deposited $9,000 related to this case

- Whether any records were pulled or any connection to Rashaun Jones or the defense was found

- His communications with federal agents about GFJ’s later July 29 statement

- Discrepancies between GFJ’s July 21 and July 29 accounts

- Questions about Spencer Bradley and detectives who contacted him (Spencer Bradley is another inmate who says GFJ told him he was lying about information he was providing in the Rashaun Jones case)

- Whether Rashaun Jones’s own jail calls showed any witness tampering, any mention of GFJ, or any reference to payments

Grossman also said he's authored no reports in this case.

From the State: Motion for Order in Limine

The State is asking the court to order the defense not to make mention of any direct or indirect impeachment material for George French Jones/GFJ in front of the jury without getting permission first outside the jury’s presence.

They are reserving the right to supplement this motion once they get more information about the Spencer Bradley investigation.

LUIGI MANGIONE PLEA: The federal government is recommending 24–30 years. The defense has filed a motion to dismiss the state case on double jeopardy grounds now that the issue is ripe.

Lauren Conlin and Deanna Paul are covering the press conference.

EDIT: During the press conference, the Gov said they were pursing the maximum penalty available. However, 24-30 seems like the applicable range and it's what was recommended in court, according to multiple reports.
