Welcome! This is a casual place to keep up with trials and court cases in real time. Trial watches, appeals, motions, deep dives, and the occasional “wait… what?” story.
We look at cases with two pulses here -
1) What do you think happened?
2) Did the prosecution (or plaintiff) actually meet their burden to prove their case?
Those answers don’t always match, and the Chatt always weighs in with something insightful and fresh.
I have fun along the way, but I'm passionate about covering serious issues, too. Wrongful convictions bother me. So do prosecutions that fall apart because police or prosecutors colored outside the lines trying to win. Also: I’m not a lawyer. I just love learning the law, watching a good argument… and honestly, sometimes I really enjoy the bad arguments, too.

Judge Rochon has denied Blackburn's request for reconsideration, does not find the excuse for late payment acceptable. However, Rochon permits an installment schedule.
This is in relation to the order to pay costs after the deposition no-shows.

VERDICT in the Stefon Morant Wrongful Conviction Case: Jury Awards Stefon Morant $38 million for his wrongful conviction, finding that the City of New Haven and former detectives Vincent Raucci and Vaughn Maher are liable for the misconduct that got him convicted.

Morant spent 21 years in prison.
Detective Sweeney, who had spoken out about Raucci's conduct, was not found liable on any counts.
Vincent Raucci was found liable on all counts as alleged:
- malicious prosecution
- failure to disclose exculpatory evidence
- fabrication of evidence
- coercion of statements
- conspiring to violate Morant’s rights
The jury began deliberating on Wednesday.

DENIED - Judge Cristina Miranda/Pitbull Barbie denied Rashaun Jones' motion to disqualify. The defense can appeal to the Third District Court of Appeal.
There's a hearing scheduled 6/1 for other motions.

The criminal indictment against Tyrone Blackburn was dismissed. This is in relation to the accusations that Blackburn hit a process server who was attempting to serve papers in the Fat Joe civil case.
Looking at the docket, it seems like the prosecution asked for - and the Judge granted - permission to re-present charges against Tyrone Blackburn to a Grand Jury.
Prosecution is not barred at this time.
A status hearing is set for July 24th.
