Moving to a new country is exciting… until you experience your first winter ❄️🇳🇱

This is my first real winter in the Netherlands, and honestly, it has been a mix of shock, learning, beauty, and adjustment.

If you’re planning to move here, just arrived, or still finding your feet, here’s what surprised me the most 👇🏽

Outside, the cold is REAL. The wind hits differently, and the weather can change in minutes. But the surprise? Inside Dutch homes is pure warmth and comfort. Proper heating, cozy spaces, and a feeling that winter is meant to be lived — not suffered.

Then there’s the people.
The Dutch are incredibly resistant to cold. You’ll see people dressed lightly, calm and unbothered, while you’re fully layered like you’re going on an expedition 😅
If you’re from a warmer country like me, don’t worry — you’ll adapt in your own time.

Winter also comes with its own magic ✨
Christmas here feels special. Santa visits, families gather, children receive gifts, and you can feel how intentional the season is about making kids feel loved and celebrated.

One thing nobody prepares you for?
The early sunsets.
Imagine the sun going down around 4:30 PM. It feels like the day ends early, and you learn quickly how important light, routine, and mindset are.

Work life continues regardless of the weather.
Rain, cold, snow — people still go to work. No excuses. But what I respect most is this: they don’t overwork. They arrive on time, do their job, and leave on time. Winter doesn’t change that balance.

And cycling? 🚲
Cycling NEVER stops.
Rain, frost, snow, minus degrees — bicycles are still moving. Winter or not, the Dutch lifestyle continues.

• Ignoring your health while chasing everything else

2026 is about quiet growth over loud pressure.
It’s about boundaries, intention, and consistency.
It’s about building a life that feels aligned, not forced.

You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You only need to be honest about what no longer works.
