April 18th to 19th: The Great Britain XVII

The first steam railtour to visit Penzance since 2022, the tour is steam hauled throughout with a West Coast locomotive.
September 12th: The Mayflower
đź“ŤBirmingham to Plymouth via Bristol
7029 Clun Castle* and 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe unassisted over the Devonian gradients.
Last Sundays of May, July, August and September: The Royal Duchy
đź“ŤBristol to Par via Yatton
Utilising the turntable at St Blazey, the tours will be hauled by a West Coast steam locomotive.
September 22nd and 25th: The Cornish Riviera
đź“ŤLondon Paddington to Penzance via Pewsey
71000 Duke of Gloucester is booked to lead the tour.
Throughout May to September: 12 Saturdays of the English Riviera Express/Torbay Express

60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is heading to Kingswear on 7 Summer Saturdays. 61306 Mayflower is thought to be filling in any gaps.

⚠️Watch out for cancellations!
With 45212 out of action and West Coast Railways ending their partnership with the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust (owners of 60163 Tornado), the Railway Touring Company have NO STEAM LOCOMOTIVES available in England and Wales. It is unclear how long until 34028 Eddystone is ready to join the mainline.
Four RTC tours have been cancelled or amended, including the West Somerset Steam Express due to take place next Saturday, August 9th. This has been cancelled.

That’s a wrap! All 9 English Riviera Expresses have been and gone without a problem. But there’s a few more steam tours to the South West to come. Here are your key dates:
This Weekend: Blue Pullman to Penzance and return x2 AND 44871 to Par
September 14: 44871 to Minehead
September 25: 61306 Mayflower to Plymouth
September 27: 🚨 GWR 5043 & 7029 to Plymouth
September 28: 61306 Mayflower to Exeter AND 35028 Clan Line to Exeter
October 9: 61306 Mayflower to Plymouth

Great News - 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley will visit Devon in July! Currently, 60007 with operate the English Riviera Express on July 6th & 20th, as well as the Golden Hind on July 11th.

I’ve made an film! For the first rail-tour of 2024, 7029 Clun Castle hauls the Cathedrals Express to Salisbury.

61306 Mayflower to be based at Bishops Lydeard for 2024 rail-tours
In a rather unexpected move, Locomotive Services Limited are expected to base 61306 Mayflower at Bishops Lydeard for the 2024 rail-tour season. Revealed on the Steam Dreams website, if this is true, the loco will haul various rail-tours through next summer, including the all of; the Welsh Marshes Express, the Golden Hind & the English Riviera Express. Dates and timings for these tours are available at:

Going further, I’m loosely predicting that the Mayflower will feature at the West Somerset Railways Spring Steam Gala on the Friday, Sunday & Monday of the event. It is only 3 tonnes heavier than a 7800 Class Manor, so the weight restriction currently imposed on the WSR, would not be a factor affecting availability. Why not the Saturday? Because that should be the day of the first tour to Kingswear.
Whilst the Mayflower is rostered for the summer, it cannot be guaranteed and may be substituted for a different engine.
