So, I want to discuss an article I read about Bruce Campbell and his comments regarding the three most recent Evil Dead movies. This is what he said:

“I like more humor back in. The three features have been mostly humorless, and I personally have a problem with that,” he said, echoing a sentiment shared among some of the franchise’s fans. “There’s no point for these to get too grim. You can be scary without being grim.”

Do you think the movies should bring back the humor?

I have been a fan of Evil Dead for years. Actually my first VHS tape was The Evil Dead (1981). I’m not going to lie I really liked the 2013 Evil Dead movie. I didn’t really enjoy Evil Dead Rise, and I haven’t seen Evil Dead Burn yet, so no spoilers, please!

But I do understand where Bruce Campbell is coming from, especially when it comes to the lead character. Ash's personality itself was part of the entertainment. The newer movies can have strong characters, but Ash brought a particular combination of horror, sarcasm and over-the-top confidence that became a huge part of the franchise's identity.

I don’t think what Bruce said was bad at all. I think he just wants a slight change in direction. I think he just wants some of that humor and personality back.

What do you think? Should the Evil Dead franchise bring some of the humor back?

Why has no one told me how good this movie is? This movie is not only about survival; it deals with so many aspects of life that many of us struggle with, including fear, sacrifice, family, and the emotional lengths people will go to in order to protect and help their loved ones.

Imagine living in a world like this and volunteering to participate in the Long Walk, where only one person can win. This movie had me laughing one minute and feeling sad the next.

I really enjoyed the character dynamics throughout the film. I can see why David Jonsson was cast as Black Panther. His versatility as an actor is impressive. I’ve seen his work before, especially in Alien: Romulus, and he did an amazing job in that movie as well. Honestly, everyone did a great job.

I never read the book before, but after watching this movie, I definitely want to read it. This is absolutely a movie I would watch again.
