Sathnam Sanghera is one of my favourite authors - his work Empireland gave me the history lesson about Britain's imperial legacy that I always needed, and which school never gave me.
Observations about language & empire are a big part of his work, and he himself is a Punjabi speaker who recalls not speaking a word of English on his first day of school in Wolverhampton. Hear him speak about the languages that made him in the latest episode of Word For Word.

I can't believe we're already about to hit 10k subscribers here, and I've only made 3 videos as part of The Glottal Stop (!!!). THANK YOU! So...what do you want videos about?
This is a show about language and languages, and in my journalism I write a lot about multilingualism and language rights. My book that comes out soon is all about linguicide - that's the suppression and erasure of language.
I'd really like to hear about what YOU would like me to make videos on. I'm a lot keener on sociolinguistics, how history and society intersects with language etc. than I am on stuff like grammar and etymology as an FYI. I am a Spanish, Arabic and Italian speaker, if that also gives you any ideas.
