"We have no lasting city, but we seek the one to come."

I write songs about what I read and study in the Bible. I'll share songs that I've written, covers of songs I love, and occasional #versebyverse studies in the Bible.

Lasting City

This is a song I wanted to write for a long time - it's about the reality of life after death and the eternal hope I have as a Christian. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:1 "For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands."

I think it's interesting that the Bible in certain places refers to the bodies we live in as "tents" that will be eventually laid aside. While I enjoy camping (hello East Texas!), after a couple of days you just wanna to go HOME. Similarly I pray that Jesus stirs in our hearts an even greater longing for our FOREVER HOME with Him in Heaven.

Absent from the body is present with the Lord
For me to live is Christ and to die is more
When I pass to Heaven and get swallowed up by life
When this old skin is shed like a tent that's laid aside
A welcome to Your kingdom and a faith that will be sight
Because You rose again
I will rise again!
